WGM is earned in non-open women’s only tournaments. As far as FIDE rating, iirc the rating average is lower than an IM (international master).

There are women IMs and GMs because those are earned in open FIDE rated tourneys. So the title is nothing to scoff at (probably puts someone in the top 1.5% or maybe better of rating OTB) but it’s nowhere near the level of GM.

I don’t know much about chess but apparently she also cheated to earn her WGM title. Her main draw isn’t her integrity and unfortunately I don’t think wsop cares much about it either.

There are many women that the WSOP could promote. Qiyu Zhou aka “Nemo” is not one of them. I don’t understand why the WSOP would want to align their brand with her. It’s unsurprising that they blocked comments on their tweet. That probably is a clue as to whether they made a good decision or not.

This is completely false.

WGM: A FIDE title open only to women, the Woman Grandmaster title is awarded to players who achieve two or more title norms (covering 27 games), requiring rated play greater than or equal to a 2400 performance against opponents with average rating greater than or equal to 2180.

It doesn't have to be in women's closed tournaments at all.
