Sure for people with tilt issues you could employ a few good habits that might help you. But for most people taking a cold shower or eating a chicken breast and kale smoothie in the break offers 0.0001% of EV compared to actually studying poker spots. Mental game coaches are such utter BS. The stuff that people like Elliot Roe is teaching is so basic and not worth the money at all.

his girl is probably worth ten of those mental game coaches, he seems a really down to earth guy. should probably cut down on the smoking for his health but im no one to talk.

I think the issue is that people charge hundreds of dollars thinking they are some kind of expert on any subject after they have read one selfhelp book. As many things in Poker I think it's just best to trial and error, I wouldn't pay someone personally (even though I have in the past) to tell me what to do outside of the tables. I feel like there is a dogma that people gets convinced you have to write a journal, do a cold plunge, meditate, eat some optimal diet, take 20 supplements and so on to become a succesful highstakes player.

@Kebabkungen Interesting perspective from you. I experience things completely differently. I"m now at the point that like 10h of mental game etc. will be equal in ev to 300hours studying I think. And I actually think mental game is really underestimated how important it is. Atleast I highly underestimated it (and pursuing this poker thing).... I don't think the correlation between average hs reg and being introvert is any coincidence actually. Some hs reg said in a podcast as takeaway advice "you have to be least human possible". That's also why it's so refreshing seeing a crazy extroverted guy like girafganger having this level of success (which I think was also partly your initial point).

@ggbruuce I see what you mean. That "dogma" is definitely there and it makes poker definitely less romantic (its contrast to isildur 48h sessions spinning up his br adding 2 figures to it). And I agree it's partly commercialized and some people definitely go over the top with it. Again that's why it's nice to see Giraf having success. But I felt like sharing my perspective because I wish I could just skip the boring stuff (like habits, exercise, maybe nutrition + working on mental game) but every time I try it I lose my mind (and bankroll) in this game. And I'm sure there are others like me.

I disagree respectfully. All you need is poker skill. It is really damaging to poker if people think that you have to be introverted and robotic/boring to win, and that extroverted and outgoing, emotionally upbeat people cant do well at poker. Some people seem to think the cold showers, meditation and kale smoothies will tone down their emotions and that it will lead to better decisions. It only makes you more boring. As long as you dont actually get so affected by your emotions that you tilt and blast off stupidly then you dont need to change the way you act or your personality.

The correlation between introversion and poker skill is just that, a correlation. Analytical people tend to be more introverted. And analytical people are better at poker. So you see more introverts doing well at poker. But that doesnt mean that all introverted people are better at poker, and especially it doesnt mean that becoming more robotic/introverted will make an individual a better poker player. If you are a natural extrovert, trying to become introverted wont change your poker skill. Most likely it will just hinder you because you have to spend energy on maintaining a fake mask of introversion. Better to just embrace your emotions and find strategies that allow you to make good poker decisions while having those emotions. Like Girafganger is obviously showing is very possible.
