GGPoker and WSOP.com to Run 85 WSOP Online Bracelet Events Starting July 1 - Page 3 - Poker News

You realize that the global pandemic literally means it is inadvisable for anybody, much less "most people" to "travel to either NV or NJ to play online." Even absent a pandemic, very few people would travel to another state to play an online tournament. Sure, some pros might, but find me a recreational player (even a serious one) willing to do that.

I don't think there is any harm in running these online tournaments, but there is no question that the U.S. attendance is going to be minimal.

^ I live a few hours from the NV border, so it's enticing to want to drive across, get a receipt to prove I was there, drive back home, use a VPN, and grind. Going there just to rent a room and lock myself in to play online poker isn't appealing or worth it.

Derail but the mlb championship being called the world series is old enough that the origin isnt even clear.

Cant think of another example of a major north american sports league including "world" in the title of their championship. WSOP makes some sense as its participants (teams of 1 if you will ) are from many places outside of north america.

This somewhat specific time was also mentioned in the Covid thread - do you have a source for this? I know they said they'd be looking to the fall when they postponed, but I've seen nothing else since. Did I miss something?

So that's the literal meaning of 'global pandemic'!

Travelling in and of itself is not singficantly more dangerous than staying inside one city. It's a matter of how you behave. Anyone can be an idiot in their own city. For example, I actually DROVE PAST the card room parking lot and THOUGHT ABOUT GOING IN -- Florida has the greatest poker in the world right now.

But I behaved. As I would on the road I travel to NJ to play the WSOP.

I'm thinking of a Winnebago.

I believe any American bracelets won in these online events will be forever known as the "covid bracelets" and will carry as much prestige as WSOPC rings.

The American side will have the softest WSOP online fields in history (no more European beasts + disproportional amount of East coast fish) while the opposite is true for the ROW. There's absolutely nothing wrong with easy money and it's already good enough of a motivator for playing, just don't expect anyone to be impressed with a bracelet that you've won at a glorified circuit event.

Most of them from what I hear were just like daily deepstacks and they became bracelet events because wsop were losing trafic to other events with lower buyins in Vegas at some times during the summer.

There's no great prestige, it's all the same stuff. I can see distiguishing main event winners and the 50k championship but the rest it has no great value really. Just like the WCOOP and SCOOP were prestigious and now it's completelly diluted and it's not because of this year either.
