In europe at least many people are on summer holidays in august (online trafic goes down) I wonder how it is in asia during that time? Maybe with covid less holidays/tourism this year all over the world this summer.

Meh. Nothing more than a cash grab off the name. Also, you haven't really earned a bracelet unless you've spent 6 hours in the RIO's registration lines or raced several thousand seniors to the only working urinal.

Still better than nothing I guess, but having to travel out of state just to play an online tournament really sucks. Unless they have some massive guarantees for the US side of things it's going to be a joke of a series.

Though I do hope it's a huge success that brings attention to the screwed up situation with the online poker in the US and paves the way for the nationwide legalization.

**** Vegas, **** AC, **** covid and **** all the legislators who are forcing me to travel during a pandemic because of this outrageous prohibition that was forced on us by the greedy owners of the competing brick-and-mortar establishments.

Is there a reason Delaware players get excluded from these types of events?

Unfortunately 31 of 35 listed at WSOP are nl hold em. Hopefully GG poker will have a bunch more.

I took today's news as a sign there won't be any live WSOP events until next year.

This is not my read, no. This is being pitched as something different - a new "WSOP Online." There is nothing in the news this week that indicates the plans to host WSOP 2020 in the fall have been scrapped, or that this is a straight replacement.

Because WSOP isn't in Delaware. Its network partner 888 is in Delaware, but WSOP keeps these events exclusive to their WSOP platform in NV and NJ, it is not accessible network-wide.

Not sure if that is true. I know players who are playing there without having to upload any doc.

can't imagine operators can add many variants in this short time frame, but it isn't a real "World Series" w/o a global competition anyway.

And what is the signification of the WSOP bracelets on GGpoker without any american citizen ? Without half of the other part of the world who cannot acces to GGpoker? Ridiculous.

So all the people in the US that fly to NV... those same people may FLY or DRIVE to NV or NJ....

Of course its not the same. But its better than nothing... and I just re-read the notification and the official WSOP site even says they are still planning for a Fall WSOP....

So its not horrible. Alot of people can drive just a few hours and now take a shot.

This is an odd way of looking at it.

Until a few years ago, WSOP was only available to people residing in or traveling to one specific casino in Las Vegas. Then with the advent of WSOP online, bracelets were available state-wide. Then with New Jersey pooling, it was available across two states.

Now, on top of those states (and anyone can still travel to Nevada and play, just like before), WSOP bracelet events are available in dozens of countries around the world on GGPoker, including large parts of Europe, Asia and South America.

You can criticize this lots of ways, but you can't say that this series isn't more accessible by at least 2 orders of magnitude.

In fact, you could make a good argument for saying this is the first truly "world" World Series of Poker.
