That's a fine perspective to have in general, but not in this case. If this was GG's perspective, then they should not have used the word "guarantee".
A guarantee is like a promise. So, when GG poker advertises a guaranteed $1 million top bounty, they have to stick to their promise! (unless it's sufficiently long before the tournament begins).
All your reasoning about EV etc. would be totally compelling - if they hadn't *promised* a $1 million top bounty. GG doesn't get to say "sure we promised, but actually we're not going to do it because we would have gotten the same number of players anyway!!". Or even "but the $EV was the same for our players!" OP doesn't care about some random counterfactual or what his EV might technically have been. OP cares about getting the money that GG Poker promised him he would get if he won the top bounty. And that's totally fair, because that's what a guarantee means.
