What poker game has the most skill and least luck involved in the game. I figured probably Omaha High/Low split and seven card stud has least luck involved probably. Just wondering if there are any articles on this or what people have experienced.

i'd have to go with the pot limit omaha games....mostly because the hand really starts on the flop and postflop def requires the most skill.

Yeh thats a good point. But even when the money goes in the best shape your usually in is 70 30 at most. I was just figuring stud games because you know so many of the cards out already. You just have to have a good memory. And Omaha Hi/Lo split because going for the low is pretty low variance and once in a while you scoop the high too. There just arent as many bad beats in these 2 games as there are in PLO i feel. But I dont have a ton of experience in PLO.

all poker games have the same formula.

every decision = 100% skill
every result = 100% luck

although, I see what you are getting at... and the most difficult games tend to have the highest variance, so as long-term reward for skill goes up... so does short-term reward for luck.

How you define skill, and similarly how you define luck, is a question you would need to answer before answering which game has the most of the first and the least of the 2nd.

I would imagine HU PLO has the most skill but it probably has the most luck of any games too. Im pretty sure i remember a sklansky post from many a year ago when he talked about the most skillful game being HU Stud/8 with no qualifyer for low, but i think his definition of skill is likely the one with the most math.

The trouble in the origional question is that a game with the most skill can have the most luck, and one with the least skill can have the least luck.

Sorry, for all the intellignece shown on 2+2 regarding how to best play poker, this thread shows very little understanding of basic logic.

You MUST first define the terms: skill=the acts controlled by the humans; luck=the the cards dealt and their sequence.

Defined this way we can see that PL requires more human decision making than L, and NL more than PL. Beyond that I freely admit that I am not sure, either because I am not familiar with the specific game or because I have never had enough otherwise worthless time to reason a conclusion.

But that is the best way to frame this debate IMHO: in which game does the betting (the human decision making element) have the greatest effect?

the answer is clearly no limit holdem , its one of the only pure games left

stud is a joke, plo comes on a close 2nd

holdem is the cadillac of poker for a reason


but on the other hand, i think its hard to compare nlhe and plo because they take different skillsets

2) If I'm so obviously wrong, then TELL US all why 5 Card Draw isn't, or even better, why No Limit Hold'em is.
