I heard a rumor from a reliable source that the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) may not return post COVID. I really hope this is not true as they've hosted many tournaments within driving distance to me and, in my experience, were run well with a crew of experienced, competent dealers & suits.

They had a good mix of tournies, Seniors, Tag Team, Bounties, etc. at various pricepoints.

Does anyone have any info on the Future of the HPT?

I was bummed when they dropped the “California swing” tour stops that used to be a part of it. L.A., Palm Springs were good events.

Wouldn't hold my breath. I'd say something like 20% chance it returns and even that would be unlikely to look the same as the employees who made it happen have moved on.

Some consolidation might be good for the industry in any case.

Bringing this back around, any developments or info on if the HPT will ever return or has the MSPT pretty much taken over that field??

My personal opinion, but no hard data to back it up. The person who was in charge of the HPT (not Jeremy or Korey, they reported to this person) is a very high ranking VP at the highest level of the corporation. The HPT is such small potatoes to them, they don't even want to take the time to sell it, let alone hire people and reopen it. I was told by somebody that they were part of a group who offered to buy the HPT, and their offer was declined. So, this VP is apparently just letting it die. Which is a shame, as they ran some great series. I hope this person changes their mind, and does reopen it.

Cheers, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Covid appears to ( haven't been making the rounds / playing enough to 100% confirm the devastation) have destroyed poker in Kansas city. A very very soft game I played in has broken up. Ameristar casino which was my home casino long ago appears to have closed their poker room. The high stakes plo games seem to be but a distant memory. Ameristar casino was also the home of the heartland poker tour kansas city events, which were very profitable and fun. That was the only kansas city tournament. I have some good memories from that series, including playing Greg Raymer in some PLO.
Im sad to see it go.
