Even if PS gets cleared of all charges, can PS buying FTP improve their chances of entering US market? Legal US market has to be worth a few billion for PS, maybe more...
Remember also that beating the civil claims doesn't clear Isai of his criminal charges, most importantly the conspiracy to violate the UIGEA, which is only going to go away if the DOJ agrees to make it go away.
Buying FTP would allow the DOJ to package the story of BF into one about offshore gambling sites being untrustworthy rather than necessarily illegal unless the State passes a law prohibiting them.
They could point to PS as an example of regulated internet gaming protecting the players, while contrasting that with FT/UB as examples of what happens if State governments do nothing.
Obama has voiced the opinion that online gambling is a State issue, so it shouldn't come as too big of a surprise if his DOJ throws this case back in the faces of State governments to motivate them to pass legislation.
