It turned out to be a fairly tough question but he may have known the answer but since he bet nothing there was no reason to come up with anything .

My point is though he is on the show to win free money so why did he nit it up when he has the game won and not try to win a little extra , It seems an overly cautious approach from someone who boldly went all in on the daily double both days so far.

Being from the UK, we don't get Jeopardy.
Just watched a couple of episodes.
What's with the who/what is crap before the answer? It annoys the hell out of me.

It is because what the show tells the contestant is the "answer" and the contestant has to provide the correct "question".

Re: Former poker standout Alex Jacob on jeopardy Monday 4/13

If someone doesn't give their answer in the form of a question, are they adjudged to be wrong?

I just looked up the origins, around the game show cheating scandal which is interesting, btw.

yes, unless they correct themselves before the time limit.

The show's original title was going to be called What's the Question? as a gimmick to differentiate it from traditional quiz shows but the name was changed to Jeopardy due to objections by an network executive.

For the last bonus round called final jeopardy, a single answer written out and there no such requirement.

Haven't watched either episode yet, but if you have a runaway, then Final Jeopardy strategy is straightforward: Bet the maximum amount that still guarantees a victory if you believe you have a better than 50% chance of getting the clue correct, and wager $0 if not.

If he wagered $0, then it's because he believed he had a less than 50% chance of getting the clue correct given the Final Jeopardy category.

Re: Former poker standout Alex Jacob on jeopardy Monday 4/13

This is awesome to see a poker player on Jeopardy. I actually watched both episodes intently which I haven't done with Jeopardy in years. I used to only watch the teen and college editions when I was in school because I would get some of the answers.

I'm not friends with Alex but have interacted with him before both on and off the poker table and am definitely rooting for him.

I like his question selection strategy and stalling strategy but an confused by his final Jeopardy strategy. Why not bet something that would be little enough to guarantee a win just in case he is wrong. He couldn't have been that uncomfortable with both of the final categories.

I'm rooting for a Ken Jennings like run!!!!

If he sees this thread...more poker references please like the all in hand gestures and maybe saying "all in" when wagering on daily doubles.

He probably wasn't comfortable with the final categories. If you have a win locked up going into the final round, GTO betting strat is 2 sizes:
1.) if you you think you have > 50% chance of answering correctly, bet maximum amount that still ensures a win if you answer incorrectly (eg.: you have $25k, 2nd place is $10k you bet $4,999)
2.) bet $0 if you think you have < 50% of answering correctly.

Unfortunately shows are taped a couple months in advance.

That has happen before some one saying All-in during a daily double, but he won't be able to take request from this thread because shows are taped 3-4 months ahead of time, they tape several shows roll in a single day taking small breaks, the winning contestant will change clothes, they will act like it's a different day.

As someone who never watches Jeopardy, this has been awesome to watch. Hopefully he continues to do well.
