I’ve noticed that a lot of players call themselves gamblers, even people who play poker exclusively.

This is clearly a skill game, but it’s also clearly a gamble. Are we gamblers?

In b4 the folks that are clearly religiously conflicted are going to argue that if they play enough hands they aren't gambling.

I play poker and definitely get my gamble on but when it comes to anything other than poker, I can count maybe on 1 hand how many times I've gambled outside of poker with my own money. Kinda funny cuz I'm within walking distance of a casino, drinking and dancing is far more fun there then gambling imo.

Yes poker is gambling. You can gamble with an edge (i.e. be a winner) or without an edge (i.e. be a loser), but it's gambling all the same.

i guess im mostly talking about how you define yourself, and players in general. i dont mean this as a literal question. I mean it could go either way: poker players could be gamblers or people involved in a skill game with a chance element.

I've played a lot of poker in my day, i've invested in stocks, bought bitcoin, bet on sports, but never did any of those things without thinking that I had an edge.

So I'd consider myself to be more of a calculated risk taker than a gambler.

I am not into gambling, i am attracted to the strategic aspect of poker, outplaying my opponents, i started with play-money and switch early to real money (obviously turned out to be way more difficult).

If you go by the definition of gambler, yes I am, everyone playing poker is. if you are asking if I consider myself a gambler, I do not. I also like to drink excessively. If you go by the definition of an alcoholic, I am, if you're asking if I consider myself an alcoholic, I do not, I sell my body for drugs.
