Were you nice and polite during those unrecorded conversations where they disconnected? Could it be possible that when you announce that you're recording, you're unconsciously on your best behavior?
Here's an experiment: Try recording without telling them, be polite throughout, and see if you can capture an example where they disconnect without any provocation. Then share it with us.
