Curious, as I see him pop up quite a bit in the background of Bobby's Room player's Instagram Stories (Gus, Jungle, etc.) quite a bit and he always seems like he plays the biggest games short handed, but seems to run relatively under the radar?

I assume he is just a low key, great player but would be interested to hear from those that know or have played with him how good he really is.

i chatted with him briefly at the bar outside bellagio poker room in late 2016 as he was having a smoke. very friendly and unassuming, told me briefly how the bobbys room game was going, asked me where i was from etc..my sense is he's very mentally strong like chip reese (ie never tilts)..

Yeah cool guy in all my interactions, but the never tilting stuff is pretty far off. Guy gets red AF when steamed, it's visible. Still crushes though, think he is just better at a bunch of the games compared to other people/goes with his instincts (ie not scared of the money).

The only person whos table presence down-low freaked me out. Obviously a fantastic player. The one time in my life I played poker well, he was there and complemented me away from the table. I cherish it as one of my happiest poker memories, even if he was wrong =)

Every person I know that plays with him regularly sings his praises. So happy he knocked HOF out

What season(s)/episode(s) of poker after dark was he on (or if he was on a lot, then which ones are the ones you guys are talking about)?

I want to watch.

David Oppenheim

Aggressiveness: 7
Looseness: 6
Short-handed: 8
Limit: 8
No-limit: 6
Tournaments: 4
Side games: 8
Steam control: 6
Against weak players: 7
Against strong players: 7

Best game: All forms of limit poker, but short handed limit hold’em was his specialty
Weakness: Not as successful in tournaments as expected for someone with his ability

David has been a winning side game player since he was a teenager and has been extremely successful playing in games one level down from the highest stakes games.

David was a bit of a maniac in his younger days, but hooking up and having a family with his sharp wife Kinsey was the calming influence he needed.

Amusing anecdote
When David was young, it was hard to bust him because he would always get in heated arguments with other players when he was losing, usually resulting in both players getting thrown out for the day.

One time someone challenged David to name one high-stakes player whom he had not gotten in a big argument with. He pointed to me. To this day, David and I have never had an argument.

Title: Parallel Universe
Artist: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Year: 1999

Reason for this song choice
When David was younger he had views that were often in direct opposition to others’, so I decided to poke fun at him about his own parallel universe.

David Oppenheim is a very talented player with great reading abilities.
He's probably the kind of guy who doesn't like being under the spotlights, that's certainly why he's not more popular but he surely got all the poker talent required to be on top.
Much respect to him.

Was he the guy bragging about winning a million dollars for x years in a row playing live cash games many years ago? I could be thinking of an entirely different guy.

The Barry G player analysis is fun read but how come he doesn’t include Tom Dwan

From reading a few, I think this was before Dwan was on the scene.

The player analysis that you people see on Barry G's site are reprints of stuff that original got shown on www.pokerroad.com, a website owned by Barry G and his son, named Zeebok, I believe.

Reportedly, Barry and Zeebok went busto and could no longer pay the monthly fee to keep the website going. That's what I heard.

At this years Poker Players Championship David was so impressed w Dario Sammartino’s play he offered him 3k for 10% of his Main Event action. Dario politely declined but offered him 1% for $100 instead. That $100 turned into a 5 figure score. Just another sick read by Oppie.

- Pokerroad was a business, centered around podcasts, a merchandise store, and website. When it proved unprofitable for the long haul, they shut it down.

- Barry's stepson is named Joe.

- Barry started reviewing other poker playing peers way back in the mid-2000s.

He's likely won that yearly, but he doesnt brag about his accolades. Example: Ran into him in hallway on break during WSOP last year, and asked him what he's doing at Rio. He says he was just showing his girl around. I sit back down at my seat, and find out he was just inducted into Poker Hall of Fame.
