This same has happened before. I'm too tired to write this blog when games aren't going my way. Meaby it's better so, basic whine about beats and downswings seems to be the current theme in pokerblogs. It's a nicer feeling to write when games are going well and better for readers when the text isn't so gloomy but let's handle the bad times too. Swings that I do at those games have gone overboard long time ago. And not just me, I'm sure it's pretty big for pretty much everyone (not counting multimillionares PA/Ivey). The only problem is that all the other big games died when 500/1000 tables came along. 200/400 omaha doesn't run anymore and nothing else for that matter beside the 500/1000 tables. Holdem hands still go, but in omaha nobody folds anymore and the flips? are something sick for both parties.
Last november/december I took the sickest upswing ever. From a deep hole all the way up ahead. And the new year, new tricks and a new hole. Actually until yesterday the year has a been a constant downswing, up and down minus 1-2 million. I don't feel that there have been any big changes in my game. Swings are just so sick that when the cards don't hit it looks really bad. (thought the cloud has had a silver lining like the last few days) One major difference in the recent days has been that almost all profits have come from HU games. First Ivey for 900k, then PA for 700k and Ilari Sahamies for 600k. I'm sure i'm better in HU that ring games, but I still can't believe that I'd be a losing player in HA ring even tho i've been losing there in past few days. Few million swings are normal in those games and I'm sure Tom Dwan knows that well who had even a bigger downswing than me even that he's one of the best cash players in the world. OMGClayAiken mentioned it too that the games are too big nowadays. But what can you do when the next active level is 25/50 which I do not want to play.
Now in two-three days I've had a major upswing, something like 1.7m, means I'm about even for this year. A good feeling I cant deny. But as there's something that needs opening up about, let's talk about tourney happenings. The year started full on at the Bahamas, felt like life's too short for tournament poker and I sat out half the time. (altogether just few hours) I don't think I won a single hand in the whole tournament and only thing to tell is the interesting hand that busted me. When I think back on it I'm not sure if I remember the amounts correctly. Levels were 200-400, UG raises 1200, I got all in from the cutoff for 5k with AK. Button snap calls. Nice. Also UG raiser goes instant all in for 7k more. Button calls. I see, aces and kings against me propably so i'll be drawing for a straight or something. Or is it? I havent recently been surprised even by Gus Hansens plays as much as this. Button had AJ, UG has AQ. I had reads that these were the 2 best players on the table. But not after this, board came a few queens and i busted.
Now I'm in Estoril, Portugal. Tourney started today (for some reason i'm not in anymore) and this time we're talking about a achievement of such level that you gotta think why i'm not nominated in the scandinavian poker awards in Copenhagen for the tournament player of the year. My tournament lasted about 5 minutes, I think I was the first to go out. I learned a new thing (meaby i've heard this before) Don't play KJ off from early position. 15k stack, 50/100 levels, I raise 300, a Finn unknown to me raises to 700 and I call. Flop J97 with a flush draw. Check-call 1250. Turn another J, I was thinking how much to bet because he'd check an overpair. Meanwhile he bets 3k even tho I really didn't check. I raise 8k, almost all in. He calls and has AJ. I'm left with 600 and i get my favorite hand which is K2 off on the button. I raise of 250 comes, few calls and I decide to go for the big pot and just call. A 2 comes on the flop, blind bets something, others fold and I call. Another kicker problem, He has A2
Couple days here still, then to copenhagen EPT. Let's hope that durrrr and PA get their challenge underway. I'll rail and cosider if I should play later. We'll see... if he loses to PA and Ivey, he might be busto after that. If he wins them easily, it could be that I'll be too scared to play. GL Both!
