Well, every life is different. But most people already lead lives worth keeping, and would be miserable if suddenly they were unemployed and wandering around the world as a sorta rich lottery winner has been.

I live in the same town. He was already doing ok for himself, while it's obviously a nice chunk of money, it's not really life changing for someone that already owns a nice home and has a successful business.

I'm sure he has changed some. Can buy some more extravagant meals now, doesn't have to worry so much about getting the "bargain". Easier to take trips when wanted etc.

No need to suddenly change everything you do in life though, especially for someone of Hesp's age.

I mean if someone who is working is comfortable dropping $10k on a poker main event seat for something fun to do they probably are already living a fairly comfortable life.

(Can't remember if he won the seat in a satty or not but If not then that applies^)

Sorry I should have done and usually do. Had to edit down the piece as I am sticking to 100 words max per post so had trouble squeezing in the source link.

To us in the UK, the Yorkshire stereotype is pretty common knowledge. It may or may not apply to John Hesp.

Other Yorkshire stereotypes that non Brits may not be aware of are of them being plain speaking, blunt and opinionated and referring to the county they live in, Yorkshire, as "God's own country".

So it's just a pure coincidence then that two of the bluntest speaking and most opinionated figures in British sporting history, Geoffrey Boycott and the late Brian Clough, are ermmm, both from Yorkshire!

Both absolute legends but they do fit part of the stereotype.

Obviously Yorkshire is a very big and diverse area and my instinct is that the stereotype
is becoming more diluted and less prevalent as time moves on.

My favourite Yorkshire phrase is "tintintin" (It isn't in the tin)
