Is Chris a winning player? I hope he's not just playing tournaments, real tough to win those.

Different technology from the lipstick camera we saw later in the TV poker boom, but I don't know who patented the latter.
Aha. Thanks Wilbury.

It does beg the question of why it took so long for them to be used in the US though and I wonder if Channel 4 in the UK came up with them on their own and only then found out that the idea was already patented. It wouldn't surprise me.

Not to put Moneymaker down as he was a great champ, comes across as a down-to-earth decent guy and a big part of poker history, but he'll never be in the PHOF; from wikipedia, to get in the PHOF:

A gambler must have played poker against acknowledged top competition,
Played for high stakes,
Played consistently well, gained the respect of peers,
And stood the test of time.
Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

Does Chris meet those requirements?

If the bolded was taken out, then why not. It would be better if it said, 'Or, for other players or non-players ...'

It seems harsh to exclude someone if they haven't played at the highest levels, but to include others who haven't played at any level.

He also seems to have mostly stood the test of time as an ambassador of poker from what I have read.

Orenstein, had the idea to make poker on TV watchable for the common folk.

ESPN, produced a polished product for the casual observer and broadcasted it over a nationally renowned network with millions of viewers daily. Allowing poker to catch on mainstream.

Moneymaker, his story inspired people to go out and play, because they could one day be playing heads-up for a WSOP bracelet and $2.5 million. This dream was infectious to millions and helped generate large player pools and potential customers that advertisers could cater to.

The 2003 Poker Boom needed all three of them to ignite into the unstoppable force it was for 7-8 years.

With that said, there will never again be a poker boom like 2003. I believe this statement to be true, because there are way too many wizards out there now. If the wizards were rampant back in 2003, Moneymaker would've never won. Because of this, the casual observer, or new blood, will quickly realize the dream just isn't attainable, without devoting hours upon hours, to studying the game.
It’s not mentioned often but home equity loans, ninja mortgages and all the easy $$ out there didn’t hurt .

cmon guys, poker isnt a sport like NBA NFL MLB. terms are not the same.

You have to let Moneymaker in, this is such a subjective award based off momenst and impacts. If not a full entry into the hof, than maybe a memorial of sorts of the movement he caused.
