There's a difference here though. Putting Erik in jail doesn't do anything cause he has no money.

On other hand, putting Wesley Snipes in jail has a purpose cause he has money and he probably won't want to keep going to jail.

I mean, I assume Erik doesn't have money. Maybe he has some full tilt money buried in desert.

He's freerolling - if he loses the bet he can just declare bankruptcy again.

Putting someone in jail is similarly useless for murder: you can't bring that person back from the dead so why bother?

The primary purpose of criminal tax enforcement is to disincentivize tax fraud of others.

In the hole right next to the one where Chris Ferguson resides perhaps?

Actually I heard Erick spent 6 weeks in the desert outside Albuquerque looking for a barrel of Walter White's cash.

If Daniel Negreanu was really his friend, he would just put up the $8 million to get him out of debt and this mess, and throw in another $2 mil just to help him get started again. $10 million is probably just small change to DN; judging from the way he used to throw money around in High Stakes Poker........

yeah like the way he threw his good friend e dog some money when edog turned quads against him. anyways negreanu could buy him out of debt and the people he owes would probaly be more than happy to give him a nice discount as opposed to probaly never seeing a dime. problem is daniel is obv willing to help him to a degree but not that much or else he would of already

Difference between tax evasion and not paying your taxes. Evasion will potentially land you in jail. If you properly file but don't have the money to pay the irs just owns you until they get their money.

doubt negreanu has more than 20 million liquid cash, just giving half or his money away to help a freind, most people wouldnt do that for there own family

weird that it is a chapter 11 bankruptcy, usually for businesses and partnerships.

That's not the only difference! Wesley Snipes was represented by a tax protester group called the Guiding Light of God Ministries, who sent a fraudulent $14 million payment to the IRS, claiming that it would somehow be paid from the US Treasury. And there were other years when he tried various ill-conceived schemes to delay and defraud the IRS.

It would have been pretty hard to let that go.

Individuals are allowed to file. Chapter 11 is a reorganization as opposed to a Chapter 7 liquidation. Erick may argue the cash he recently won is cash collateral he should be entitled to use in his business, presumably profession poker. Perhaps he'll seek authority to use the cash in the WSOP, trying to show that he can generate more funds by playing and that doing so might better allow him to pay back his creditors.

Which would be a pretty ballsy argument from a proven degen, unless he had some sort of escrow set up.

IDK, lets ask Trump...he's filed bankruptcy 4 times, and he's still a billionaire

Can we all at least understand that filing for bankruptcy does not mean you are never allowed to posses/ spend another dollar in your life.

If you have $2200 cash to buy-in to a high variance poker tourney with 1200 runners you should pay your debts. If billionaire Trump buys a casino as an LLC and the casino fails and he files just cannot be compared to what Eric has done.

Real friends+any monetary matter=disaster.

Just think about how the dynamics would change in your family if you paid everyones everything. Who would tell you to go to hell?
