i don't know if this is the place for this, but i thought i'd share the realities I've faced as a recreational, semi-pro for some income, player. This isn't what it was during the boom and never will be again. People realize poker over time isn't gambling, but a legit profession/skill. Most people realized they weren't cut out for it, the hard way. I am a winning player when i focus on tournaments and not PLO.. PLO will never be the game to bring it back to life. It takes so much skill.. i don't think there is a game that will redeem poker. I thought pineapple had a legit shot, but no TV show or WSOP event, has brought attention to it. Then again, there are many similarities between it and holdem, and most people i know, are scared to even put over 100 dollars online anymore. Before i get too off, I'll just say, I've realized poker isn't gambling. This isn't some get rich quick scheme. Chris Moneymaker and Marvin Moon aren't, at all, common. It took me 11 years to win at 50$ish buyins at a healthy ROI. This game is disheartening for a long time, for most people.

my ROI is good enough to go "pro" at around 50 dollar buyins. I crush 10/25c and 25/50c PLO.. but i get destroyed by dead cards every time i take a shot. i got to 2100 from 50 on bodog last month and took shots at 1/2 dollar and that was horrible. I ain't playing big stakes.. but its terrible trying to get going. I just need one break. I run so bad in sunday millions.. and other big tournaments.. but if i play a 3k 5.50 i'll run like God. it's just not happening and hasn't in 11 years, as far as big scores. I lose with the best hand SO MUCH in these big tournaments, that i keep playing. I guess tournies are gambling for a bit.. but once you're around the bubble, there is 100% skill involved. I always tell people if they're going to play poker for over 500 dollars, they better know what they're doing.
