Lots of very successful massgrinders played something like 16/12 back then though. No need to get creative when you can just play 16-24 tables of stack-a-donk poker.
I remember from my own NL100/NL200 FR days back then that the majority of the guys who made a relatively variance-free $10k+/month (including rakeback) played in the neighborhood of 9/7. There was even that one guy who got his >$100k rakeback/year for playing break-even with 6/5 stats.
That said, I highly doubt Dusty made anywhere close to what some of the old nosebleed guys made and there are also a couple super high roller guys who made decent money. You need to grind a lot of mid/high-stakes to get to a $111k one drop win that you have (close to) 100% of and don’t pay taxes for.
