Sng's were not around before PokerStars.

Stars launched in Spring, 2001. I was around back then and had been active in the industry launch for Truepoker.

SnGs were developed later than that.

SnG's were around before the internet was created. PokerStars wasn't.

Stars launched, in beta form, for play money only on September 11th, 2001. (A rather easy date to remember imo.) But I suppose this qualifies as "spring" for half the planet. Real money games began at the very end of 2001.

I was around also, and while you were busy "launching" such gems as hi/lo texas hold'em, I was actually playing poker.

You love to use this "I was around way back when" thing as proof in so many threads, when it doesn't prove anything, except that you're old, like me.

No. The internet didn't invent SnG's any more than it invented poker.

No. The internet didn't invent SnG's any more than it invented poker.

The post claimed to be playing a SnG on Stars around 1985, referring to online poker
. You're undoubtedly correct that pre-internet, folks used to sit around a poker room and wait for enough folks to wander by to start a tournament. Used to happen frequently in my experience in the 1990s at the Rio on Sunday mornings during football season. If that qualifies as a SnG, okay, we can call that a SnG. ..... but the guy still wasn't playing it online on Stars in 1985.

So when did Stars launch ?

I just fact-checked that launch date and recollection with Stars' original marketing guy, their first real money tournament was run on Sept 11, which he won. You are also right about the official launch, he told me the official launch was Dec 26, 2001.

(lol @ your hi-low holdem example, I always said that game development was an accident, not intentional.)

it's a bold claim from a historical self promoter. if this were true, he'd probably stfu about it because it would kill his action. it's the silent ones that are most likely to be the biggest crushers.
