It's quite possible this is due to the friendship they've established with each other over the years.

If you're 10 tabling you can't be expected to remember how 30 other people play so a HUD helps you make decisions based on the general tendencies of the other players. If you've played the last 6000 hands HU against the same person, if your reads aren't way more specific and game-flow related than you can get from a HUD, and if you're not adjusting more frequently than every 2000 hands, then you shouldn't be playing 2/4, let alone 200/400.

there are ways to use HEM and HUD together to see how someone has changed their overall game recently. if someone knows what they're looking at and knows how to use that info and is already a great player it could certainly give them an edge over an equal player who isnt using it....imo.

No research needed. When Dwan first issued the challenge at the beginning of 2009 he said would not play Galfond in the challenge because 1) they were friends and 2) Galfond had a lot of experience versus him. Interpret that however you wish.

This, and he didn't want to put pressure on Galfond to accept the challenge for pride reasons or whatever IIRC.

Plus I seem to recall him saying jman was the only guy he felt could hang with him 4 tabling+ which was where he thought a lot of his edge was going to come from. Obviously things have changed in that department with the rise of isildur and now jungman.
