ps. I have no idea if Dwan is busto bust the evidence is really starting to pile up.
I think it´s safe to say that this bet would have been settled a long, long time ago if Dwan wasn´t busto ("cash broke", whatever). Why would he let someone like Jungle drag him through the mud if he could pay it off just like that? Jungle would probably settle for way less than the original $1.5m right now ...

I don´t think it´s inconceivable to drop $10m in a single bad week given how big the games in Macau run. I´d be surprised if Dwans roll was ever bigger than that. From what I remember, he was forced to sell pieces at the end of the Isildur debacle, and that was before the Macau games even ran (?).

Yeah let's face it, durrr's downfall began with the isildur debacle. That was a sign of terrible things to come.

And it turns out hellmuth was right when he said durrr will be broke in 5 years. LMFAO who would have thunk it

And by extension, and based on his lack of volume, probably now by a large number of high stakes on-line players. But Durrr is still one of the best players in the game. Certainly at live full ring or 6-max he is probably one of the best. Which is why he mainly plays this game now.

Hubris was his downfall. He rose so far so fast, his wings were burned by the sun. A tragedy of Greek proportions. He didn't see the rise of the new breed of on-line players, more dedicated, harder working, hungrier, more focused, etc. He thought history ended with him, and he was badly mistaken. Just the nature of the Durrr Challenge, 1.5M to 500k, against top players! That's nothing but arrogance. Or insanity.

Another interesting aspect of all of this is the rise of Jungleman. Not as a poker player, everyone knew quite early he was one of the best. But as a person. A couple of years ago he seemed a bit like a joke with his personality. The ice cream story with Siever, the incident with Girah, etc. But he has improved a lot in his social skills, he seems more mature, more confident, more stable. And at the same time, Durrr's rep has taken a brutal hit, he now seems unreliable, etc. A rather amazing turnaround.

So while Jungleman has lost out on a lot of money so far from Durrr, money that is rightfully his, he has gained a lot in credibility. He can probably leverage that into more private invites to juicy games, more TV appearances, etc. in the future. That has to be worth a lot.

Because eventually there will be a new breed of players that eclipse him and the others who are riding high now. At least if history is any guide. Will be interesting to see where these top players are in 4-5 years. There are always younger players who are poorer and hence hungrier. Tomorrow will be their turn to shine.

But I think Jungleman is too smart to offer other top players ridiculous odds to play him heads up. That, as we've seen, is a recipe for disaster.
Do you have a durrr poster above your bed ? stfu, what a load of crap and i even took the time to read it

Saying it would be settled if he wasn't broke is silly. If Dwan is setting on 10 million playing in games where you can swing 1 million in a session do you really think he forks over 2 million to Junglemen if he doesn't like the way some things are going down? Interesting world you guys live in where you think stiffing 2 million dollar unenforceable debts makes it likely a guy can't rub together 2 pennies.

eta - i can guarantee he had more than 10 million at one point and can also pretty much guarantee Jungle has never looked to close/settle for significantly less than the full amount (much less of a guarantee than Dwan has had more than 10 million but it's very likely).

jungle confirmed Tom won 400k vs him on the hu limit machine crossbook + that Tom asked him to pay it + jungle was (rightfully) annoyed + said he was just going subtract that from the $ Tom already owed him . I also think I saw somewhere that Tom has been paying the monthly penalties to Jungle. So he owes him less than 1.5m.

If you're logical how much do you really think Tom's "reputation" is going to swing his future earning power? Especially in regards to how much this particular event will hurt it, probably not more than he stands to lose by paying it.

Of course he's a hustler in that regard though it's not as unique a title as may be implied.
Reputation, doing the right thing, paying your dept for god sake! It shouldn't really be a choice about whether to pay or not when you owe money to someone!

I don't know why you even bring up the point about his possible future earning powers IF he pays. That shouldnt even be an issue here.

Everyone focuses on Dwan, but I am more surprised that Jungle does not explain more of what has been going on..

He seems to know of durrrr's 'situation' but does not explain it fully. Probably knows what the 'issue with full tilt ' is that dwan hinted at.
The only reason to me that jungle does not disclose more info about dwan is that he is still hanging on to a thread of hope that eventually he will get money so does not want to piss dwan off..

Galfond is another guy everyone has respect for but I don't think I have heard anything from him about his friend dwan in and his 'situation'. Is he pulling a Daniel Negreanu type stance on his Erick Lingren?

What does that have to do with whether or not he's busto (the point of the post, that plenty of non-busto people skip out on two million dollar debts for various reasons all the time)?

The reason I bring it up is because it probably enters his decision making process. There's a philosophy sub-forum for arguing whether or not it should.

PG and Tom were extremely close at one pt, so I don't think he would want to say anything negative about Tom publicly. But why should Galfond say anything about the situation? It doesn't concern him except for the fact he's friends with one of the people involved. If anything Ivey should be the one who needs to say something or take action, since he is the escrow of the 1.5mm bet.

I can wait another 5 years, because quite frankly who cares anymore.

Purely nostalgia chasing, which I don't blame, but it's just not the same these days.
