Jamie Gold was probably the only ME winner who had that tournament in the bag. I would say that Jamie Gold has been the best winner of the ME in recent times because he literally made people give him their chips.

Anyway a few of the past recent ME winners have accomplished some big stuff.

Hachem has had success at both WSOP and WPT events.

Eastgate has had great success on the EPT circuit.

I felt for Matt also, and he took it like a man for sure. However every single ME winner needs some run good and some suck outs. The better you play the less you need, but beating 6000+ people is impossible if you aren't running good.

Heck I was watching espn tonight WSOP 2011 coverage and with 12 or 13 to go Pius Heinz got all in preflop kj vs AK. The villian had a back door flush draw Also so on the river Pius had 5 cards in the deck. Sure enough he binked the gunshot straight, otherwise Pius, who I am sure played great, would be just the 12th or 13th place finisher, not someone who left his mark in the history of poker.

dude is a donk AINEC. Look at how he has played in the televised cashgames after that. He just ran great and his table talk seemed to work out for some reason ( was so exploitable too for a decent player ).

personality:

omg. by far the worst of, i believe ALL main event winners in history. the "im so important so i speak up" way he talked with DN about the table talk issue or his behaviour in the KK < AA Hand vs. Sammy made me wanna throw up.

Duhamel, Eastgate, Cada, Heinz - all good poker players and nice guys

ppl like Varkony or Yang: well not so good but for sure good guys as well.

imho Gold is by far the worst of all recent Main Event winners.
