Seems like a wise decision. Covid is surely everywhere at the WSOP and Doyle is 88 years old.

Doyle dead serious about making it to 102 years old. 14 year timeline long term thinking has made him cancel the WSOP this year. Afterall, there are many more coming in the next decade and a half.

I am neither for nor against Doyle’s decision as it is exactly that HIS DECISION. B ut the issue with the long term view and more chances coming is simply that the situation not likely to be changed much. COVID is going nowhere and zero COVID for USA is not happening. It is now an endemic disease and outbreaks at all future wsop or similar type events will be a concern. So every year will present the same dilemma for Doyle and each time he will be another year older.

He supposedly retired from tournament years ago, there was a "teary eyed" send off after he busted the 10K NLSD several years ago

Now it's the drama queen, he's in, he's out. Who cares, there's no way he would be able to deal with the long Main Event grind now anyway

Playing tournaments is a lot of hours days in a row. It is probably easier for him to play a session of high stakes cash mixed game.

If anything Doyle should have sat out last year and played this one. Omicron is much less severe than the variants last fall.
