GG Doyle! And just to update this page because people are not reading the actual story, and making comments; he is retiring because his wife is in ill health, and he feels guilty leaving her to go play poker for long stretches. He said that this could be his last tournament, that he he could change his mind, but probably won't.

I spoke with Dolly this morning. He said he’s done playing tournaments and playing aim Bobby’s room. Probably won’t even see him grinding $1-$3 games

Because he’s surely not interested in having to spend 4 days in his last tournament just to get into the money. He picked an event that he both loves and that also is over in max 2 days for him, win or lose.

FWIW, based on people who played with him in Bobby’s Room in the not too distant past, he looks in way better health than he has a lot of times in recent years.

There is a lot of Doyle's history in The History of Poker from the History Channel.

Sad to see him go, he always seemed like a class act and trying to do the right thing.

I also remember thinking he seemed indestructible, being so old and still playing HS... like 5+ years ago.

Would be interesting to see a photo slideshow of his life\poker career at different moments in time.

Wish someone could dedicate time to do that.

Doyle is the Goat.

Anyone know how did Doyle get 75 mil net worth?

Maybe I'm naïve, but is the bulk of it really from grinding cash games?

Did / does, he have any other major investments?

I know he made some money from Doyle's room, but he's always been playing high stakes, which makes me feel like he's had side investments.

I like how they got Doyle one of the nice chairs for the final table and everybody else is sitting in a regular chair

Yep, I noticed that right away. If he busts, they will remove it, and then bring it back for the HU match.

Doyle has been very forthcoming that he has been a poor businessman/investor outside of poker, and he has also said publicly that he took a bath on Doyle’s Room. (There’s a vid of Phil Gordon interviewing him on YouTube, e.g.)

Doyle has also said that he’s lifetime loser in the Big Game at Belagio.

Although I’m sure he makes a lot of money from appearance fees, endorsements, etc., I’d be surprised if his actual worth is $75 million. I see that stat on celebritynetworth.com or whatever, but profitingatpoker.com puts him at “over $20 million.”

I don't know anything about the man's finances, but I'd venture to guess that Super System has sold pretty well over the years, especially in that boom period around 2003-2006.
