Just another poker player to announce his 'retirement'. Add his name to Shaun Deeb, Fedor Holz, Brian Hastings, and Mike McDonald.

I'm happy for him. He's an inspiration to all of us , I'm in my 40's myself but hope I will never get tired of the game. I can see myself playing the WSOP when I'm 70.

This makes me sad. Every time I’ve gone to Vegas I play at Bellagio hoping to get a glimpse of him, maybe a picture with him. Maybe share my weed with him. He influenced every single one of us who play today.

The difference between playing in your 40s and playing in your 70s is a lot. The body, mind and soul are all a lot lot slower by the time people reach there 70s. Playing multiple day poker mtts with late finishes would be very tough.

2-7 NL single draw is one of the purest forms of poker.

GREAT game to go out on.

Glad to have seen Doyle Brunson in person play his final tournament earlier tonight. He was in the same table as Erik Seidel and Johnny Hennigan, and it was nice to see Farzad Bonyadi hand him his crutch so he could get on his scooter. He drove it extremely fast amongst the crowd. I'm serious. He drives that scooter really fast! That scooter is probably street legal and shouldn't be allowed to be driven among pedestrians, especially indoors.

I didn't know until this thread that it was Doyle's last tournament. I'm glad I was there to witness it even though I wasn't aware of it's significance at the time.

Doyle really looked sharp. He moved physically fast and was very self aware. He shouldn't even be considering retirement. I've seen much younger players look a lot less healthy and energetic, but it is obviously his decision if he wants to retire or not.

God bless Doyle Brunson!

It’s not Doyle’s health that’s the issue, it’s his wife’s.

I think it refers to when he was a road gambler and he shared a bankroll with Sailor Roberts. People assumed they were colluding.
I think he was just doing what the Germans do today.

He better win this 2-7 tournament. It'll give the movie they make about his life a really cool ending.

I don't know why he wouldn't go out on the main event or at the end of series. I hope to still be playing for fun when I get to that age.

I recommend reading The Godfather of Poker -- it's a fun and fascinating autobiography that goes much deeper than his short chapter in Super System. The stories from the old road gambler years and early Vegas years are amazing.
