It's all from people who somehow find the videos who don't know who Doug is or what the channel is all about and are annoyed that there's some guy interrupting the action to talk about the hands.

How about top 5 people who quit while at the top?

Thinking contenders could be people like the Dang brothers, Jay Rosenkrantz, Jerry Yang and other players who got out not because they were broke but for other reasons

You are funny for a poker guy, but you would be competing against pro's with a comedy channel.

You should do some amateur stand up and see how it goes.

Re: Doug Polk's Youtube Videos Thread

So here is what is happening on my channel lately.

I have been slowly trying to perfect as much as possible to get casual viewers in, and keeping them there by changing video format/titling/thumbnail/video length. I think I have the process down tight now, the last 10 videos on my channel (not counting todays) have been averaging about 100k views a video.

The problem is, a lot of these people are so casual they don't even know who I am or that you can even use strategy in poker. I have gotten a flurry of "Who do you think you are to comment on this high stakes hand", which is obviously frustrating, as often times they are talking about a tournament that I actually played in myself lol.

The thing is, as you get better at bringing these people in, you are going to through asteroid fields of people who just want to see the hand and don't want analysis. I can't see a good way around that. But what does happen, is that while there is a vocal minority that is very upset with the video, many new casual people are brought into the channel and videos to learn more about poker. That is absolutely great for my channel and also for the game of poker itself.

I am going to do some experimenting with different posting schedules over the next couple months. My channel really started blowing up when I moved over to posting every 2-3 days, so I am going to expirment with that some more. I think I will probably alternate doing weeks of daily content, and weeks of doing M-W-F. A combination of this might end up being the best play, we will see what happens.

Also as a note, I am not planning on doing soley poker hands episodes on my channel. I will continue to do funny one off videos when I have a good idea, the occasional top X pots videos, and maybe bust out a polkernews or something from time to time. But Poker Hands is the lifeblood of the channel, and at the end of the day what I am most known for is my poker ability. I have been working to perfect that format, and it has been by far the biggest draw to my channel.

Start each video with a 10 second montage of your success in poker (Perhaps a flipping of images/headlines like the start of a Marvel Movie). It ain't bragging if you did it (hat tip to the President-Elect) and it would add more credibility to your commentary for the casuals.

P.S -- The horribly played and unrealistic final poker hand in "Casino Royale" is certainly worth a video commentary, while also giving you some comedic opportunities [A bleeding eye is usually a tell, but not as much as a bleeding ...] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9fyOFefirQ

Hear hear. Well worth consideration Doug, of course with your own unique twist as well but it certainly would be the way to strengthen your cred to the randoms who happen across your channel.

Re: Doug Polk's Youtube Videos Thread

tbf I don't blame the randoms. If I didn't know who Doug was and one of the Poker Hands titles popped up in my feed I'd really expect it to just be the hand with no interruption.
Maybe if the title format was something like
"Poker Analysis: *clickbait title*"
or
"*clickbait title* (Poker Analysis)"

With that, let's jump right into today's post...

I thoroughly enjoyed the start of your latest episode, particularly not taking that old nit Greenstein to task (too hard at least) for not 3 betting preflop with his Jc10c. All in all, episode seems pretty standard so far.

Now let's take the flop portion of my post...

Again, i find myself sufficiently amused on the flop. While I like ur flop analysis, I would like to see u balance some by blasting that senile old bat Brunson for not taking a more agressive line and perhaps finding a squeeze and raising with his AJ, despite whiffing the flop. That said, the episode is still enjoyable and the flop analysis seems fine.

All right guys, let's go ahead and move to the turn...

Ur analysis, and the hand itself, are as standard as they come. Perhaps you could be critiqued for picking such a snoozer of a hand to analyze. Maybe working in one of ur dead-pan quips here could have helped? Did you feel that going for a joke here would be too "fancy play syndrome"? Or maybe you were too busy worrying about how ur ghey faux hawk was looking at moment? Anyway, feels like it could have been a good time for you to use some amped up aggression.

But enough about the turn, let's move to the river....

Analysis wise, I really like ur line here. I just could not agree more with ur take on Eastgate's "just" call, rather than him raising. Where I do find fault is with ur comments about Dwan and the others making fun of Eastgate for not raising. I felt they more laughing at Dwans reaction when he found out he lost. Nothing more to it than that. While I felt you played that portion wrong, it's probably not a huge viewership loser in the long run.

Thanks so much for reading guys and don't forget to think about subscribing to Doug's ghey hairstyle.

PS - go go go in the Aria 25k brah!!
Sounds like you should open a channel then.

P.S. Brah, i think Doug's hair is his own signature,Don King has his trademark Crown and is Universally known for it.
Tobias had his own unique style too before he opted for the faux bald look.
Doug's got a solid head of hair and i hope he continues to do whatever he wants to do with it, even do a Phil Laak with it if he sees it fit to do so.

Happy Newbie to all.

Doug, not sure if you're aware but recently YouTube made quite a big change to how they display videos.

there are some great videos out there explaining the new changes YouTube has made and how it's showing videos in related at front page results. (On phone, can't link sorry)

Daily return viewers is one of the new ways YouTube rewards channels and is just as if not more valuable than interactions such as likes subs and comments.

With all due respect, your idea of leaving it a few days, posting a vid.. is just based on a whim and anomaly in some of your latest insights.

Are you talking about the game theorists video? I watched that and it had a lot of good information.

I'm not the kind of guy to just decide to do something for no reason and go with it. I am going to do some split testing on different posting schedules. But if you look at the result on the channel, over the couple weeks of less consistent posting, videos got much more love in the algorithim.

The problem with posting daily, is to some extent you compete with your own videos. If a video goes up on Monday and Tuesday, you in a way compete with yourself for someones view if they decide to only watch a single video. I think this plays a role in which videos youtube decides to boost.

With daily content, I tended to average around 65k views/vid
With a post every 2-3 days, it tended to be more around 100k views/vid

Both have merit, and I will continue to test things out. But if it makes sense to only post 2-4 times a week because it gets the best results, that is what I will go with.

Again the videos with joeingram1, I think it was clear for the start that they would not work.

Doug is a know high level player, respected from the community, with a lot to give and with story's to tell, joeingram1 have some nice podcast but he seems like some kind of a con man.

Sorry but after all the podcasts Joey has done, and how awesome it is for the community to have someone do something like that, don't see how you could call him a con man.

Merging your YouTube posting range. Sick.

Need to work in a bluff imo. Tweet out that ur posting a sick hand on Thursday. And then wait for it, don't tweet out the video until like Monday or some chit. Mass hysteria (and viewership) ensues imo.
