I'll agree with you that there's a difference between rationally deciding on your direction in life and then following through, that Doug's probably done upon later reflection (HU dead, poker state , he's peaked, tourney circuit is annoying etc.)
But when it's rationally overall +ev (incl. life utility) managing your drive, and motivation through habits, approaches and things like meditation, tweaking mental approach etc. etc. is totally a skill and a lot of strategically great people don't understand that and play play play and just burn out and quit.
And of course I'll see life through my lens. E.g. for me rationally in Doug's position streaming poker for one single hour, per week in his challenge, to keep the buzz, flow to upswing and his promise to people going seems like higher EV than putting in streams of WC3 and fortnite for hours. Maybe I'm wrong here, maybe but if I'm not then Doug is lacking the skills to make himself do, or want to do that
EDIT: Of course I made the initial remarks when Doug was just inactive, as I said there could be something great there on the mainstream news channel and he's working on it hard
