I found this to be the weakest in the series so far , despite that it's gold though however I would like to point out that durrrr was opensitting 200/400 on euro sites back when(prima network in its original state, think bad_ip times) the biggest games on stars were 10/20 and 25/50. Prior to that he raped those 1k and 2k party games that were so incredibly soft that even tuff_fish made money there. Yeah they were soft but there is atleast some credit to be given for being an early adopter of sorts and make money when no one knew have to make money and knew very little of tilt in general and how to cope with it and how to protect oneself from degeness and lack of bankroll management / what to expect in terms of swings. (This is supposed to be durrrrs weak point but he ran hot overall so no need for brm)

My point with all of this is that durrrr's online winnings greatly preceeds his losses even when you exclude the guy game. The man had to run it up at some point before and even if he got backed he has to have proven himself earlier etc.

Running hot is still true though. Durrrr ran hot in key spots such as in getting into poker when he did and not run bad. I believe for the majority of his shot taking he ran like god, as all guys did that ravaged through the stakes so quickly. This accounts for a lot of people who peaked at -09 and started moving out of hs around 2010 and started going downwards the stakes until fading entirely in 2012 when they couldn't be arsed to solely bumhunt 1k and 2k anymore. Lots of DC guys come to mind

There's no debate that at one point in time Dwan was one of the best 6max NL players in the world. The fact that he is very likely no longer world class doesn't take away from his accomplishment's; it's like crapping on athletes of a previous generation. Dwan's objective skill level may not be very high, but for a significant period of time he relatively was the best. He'll always be a legend, and I felt Doug didn't give him the credit he deserves or accurately describe his career.

oh look they're already here

"b-but he was relatively THE BEST at one point during his career!"
"b-but he has done so much for poker!"
"b-but he was OPEN SITTING 200/400 on UNTRACKED EURO SITES!!! and his winnings in 2004 precede his LOSSES in 2011!"

too bad none of that takes away from the fact that he's scammer.

"b-but they're agreeing with him only because they want to one-up doug."
"b-but jungle had lots of money anyway! it's better than stealing from a blind guy!"
"b-but full tilt went down under anyway! natural disaster therefore the bet is nullified!"
"b-but..."

**** off.

too bad nobody implied that he isn't a scammer. even doug admitted he hadn't done fact checking on his winnings so people are bound to want to one-up doug. but hey, get mad for no reason.

Doug, it's a shame that the prior weeks were so good because you gotta live up to it. This one was really good but meh in comparison to the others.

i guess i can add "b-but they're agreeing with him only because they want to one-up doug." to the list.

the amount of rationalization going on here is truly incredible.

Just because OJ ended up being a murderer doesnt nullify the fact that at one time he was a world class running back.

of course it doesn't. tom dwan will always be a part of poker history.

i honestly don't understand why his past achievements need to be mentioned every time the topic of jungleman scamming comes up. they are irrelevant. every single time, the same thing happens. someone says something bad about dwan, and they are instantly swarmed by "b-but he did x in y."

people idolize this guy so much that they grasp at literally anything to rationalize the fact that their golden boy might not be so golden. it's ridiculous.

Because it wasn't the only "durrrr" topic at hand , did you skip the whole Isi/durrrr on a heater segment ? as others pointed out I never said he isn't a scammer nor a scumbag. I personally think he is a scumbag and on top of the outright theft from jungle I highly doubt games at railheaven with mostly irl friends weren't atleast equity shared and possibly colluded. Way to make a fuzz out of nothing

Calm down.

And yeah, we kinda need to bring back "untracked Euro sites" again as a credible source as it nowadays pretty much is what stars is aswell with virtually everyone worth anything opted out making the winners list in nlhe look like it could be random highstakes hu bumhunter's friends list at Skype.

Tom Dwan was a legend and great for online poker. But he was very fortunate to get the bankroll he did when he did. He was an above average winning reg for the time period, that ran hot in aggressive shot taking.

I know this is going to shock people (or they won't believe me) but at Tom Dwans peak it was actually the dream for most hunl regs to get to play him. The problem was he would only play ridiculously high stakes because of how much he had won from rail heaven. I was in a bunch of groups that debated pooling money to put someone in there but it didn't materialize because it was too difficult to orchestrate.

None of this has anything to do with the fact that what he did was completely unacceptable and imo one of the worst things a poker player has done In online poker history.

Can we not turn this into another Tom Dwan thread though.

Also I just don't understand all the hair comments. I put gel in my hair and spike it. This is in a world of people, many of which can't even be bothered to get a haircut. I'm going to continue to do my style.
