Although I definitely have been a fan of Doug’s content, I’ve always figured that part of his and Chicago’s appeal is that they are IRL dorks whose cockiness comes across as somewhat endearing and tongue-in-cheek because the innocent dorkiness that comes along with it is so apparent. I know a lot of people (myself included) thought he was a douche early on, but he definitely won me over through his vids. Knowing this puts things in such a different (much less innocent) perspective, though.

One of Doug’s IRL friends is this guy Bryce who my friend knows from living in Mexico, and he says he was one of the worst stains IRL he had ever met, a guy whose negativity and overall persona was “like a stench”. I wonder if, after seeing this all come out, a different story these guys will come out. Doug DID pretty much had a monopoly on poker content with Chicago Joey as his buddy or whatever

If somebody associated with the Upswing Poker did not buy the domain, can you with absolute certainty confirm that it was Jason Mo himself who bought the domain and redirected it to his Twitter? When we see Doug he is in front of cameras. I've never met him in IRL but the business side of Doug off camera might be a completely different and nasty person.

Is it slightly scummy maybe.. is it clever...absolutely. Any investor will tell you this is a great opportunistic investment. In fact I knew many investors, particularly in the dot com era, going around and buying common word domain names and onselling them for millions.

We own a wide variety of domain names that were available in 2016 that relate to upswing or potentially valuable future poker domains, such as RunItOncePoker.com.

Purchasing relevant business domains that will increase in value is a standard practice among internet businesses. It is also standard to purchase domains such as DownswingPoker.com that could easily become memes or jokes.

We could have had it refer to something like Upswing but instead we decided to go for some lol's.

Fernando said when he gave the 3 month notice he was leaving that he got a letter from Matt on skype basically saying"if you leave us we will hurt your reputation, you will get nowhere in this businessworld after we're done with you" If this is true, that is so ridiculous and extremely unprofessional

Also there is good chance RIO is able force grab domain even after it was registered by someone else if they wanted as they hold developed runitonce.com website/trademark.

This is not what the letter said, but it is close to what it said.

Our wording was that if he decided to abandon our customers to start a competing business, it would be a stab in the back and that this kind of decision would ruin his reputation in the poker world.

While aggressive, its also true. We are going to have to announce what happened as a company, and then he is going to move forward with his competing business. People will remember what happened at Upswing and I think its important to highlight it before he leaves.

It is different to say, if you do this scummy thing then it will hurt your rep, then it is to say, if you do this scummy thing, I will personally hurt your rep.

I think its an important difference because its not a threat from us to go after him should he decide to try to cannibalize our existing user base by starting a competing company while under contract.

Well, where I was getting in my last post is that there is Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA) in the United States, which essentially protects legitimate businesses from third party usage of their trademarked name and selling the domain or turning into memes/jokes. By essentially confessing that the Upswing Poker did indeed buy the domain, and as of the present, the Twitter post the website redirects to basically taunts RIO, just a heads up that you're potentially setting your company up for a lawsuit, should Phil Galfond decide to pursue litigation (which he would almost certainly win as he owns the trademark for RIO).
