yeah I wondered this myself -- DN has given various reasons in podcasts, on Twitter, and elsewhere. it amounts to (1) he wants some sort of 'closure' to the constant needling from Doug over the past few years, (2) he enjoys being an underdog and is interested in the challenge, (3) he thinks that it will help to improve his game and ultimately increase his EV+ when playing against the usual high-stakes MTT crushers, (4) he doesn't care about the money so he doesn't really see being EV- against Doug as a 'loss', and (5) it will ultimately draw attention to his brand/sponsorships. but at some level it still doesn't make sense, why would you ship $1m+ to someone you don't like?

also what's the over-under on how much cocaine Joey/Landon are imbibing lol

I think the GG Poker stream had Daniel losing approximately $100,000 in Session #10. Nothing concrete from the participants yet. Doug has been tweeting the exact amount plus running hand total after each round.

At the moment Doug is still on the air with Mike Brady and Martin Mathis on the Doug Polk Poker YouTube channel.

AIEV isn't the only measure of variance/luck so using it and claiming he should be down money is pretty dumb.

Of course it's not, it's just the only one with a variable that can be so easily accounted for without need for speculation. That alone makes AIEV of some value (but obviously not over this tiny sample)

It looked really bluffy to me. Daniel seems to lean heavy on 3 betting, betting small, and then checking the turn with a lot of his 3 bets. When he bets both streets he seems to bet small on one and big on the other or small on both. I don't remember him just blasting all three streets even if the board was draw heavy.

I feel like if you are going to introduce a new, low volume line, you have to have it the first time and I think Daniel is failing at that. One line that stood out to me last week was he started introducing a tiny lead out on the river. He did it like three times and got raised and folded every time. I would think you would want to do it the first time to induce a raise and then you can start working it in as a blocker or cheap bluff.

No. We live in a small country so the market isn't big enough to make money from chess. Even most of our GMs have to work for a living. A few get a govmnt stipend that allows them to focus on competing and teaching.

Oh, I just looked it up and he's a FIDE master, not an IM. His rating peaked at 2370.

No all-in pots before the river in yesterday's session, so AIEV stays the same

Over the latest losing sample, Daniel has actually run 61k above EV, namely during session 8, 9 and 10 (in the beginning of the feud he ran quite bad though)

I see dark clouds gathering above his million dollar bankroll. The original prophecy's of a huge trashing might come to fruition.

Isn't speed chess the new thing in chess? Classical games are the same opening moves memorized beforehand for a dozen or more moves.

Luck is pretty hard to quantify. By far, Daniel got the most unlucky when he flopped the nut flush and Doug flopped the second nut flush. The river paired the board and brought the fourth flush card. IIRC, they were both super-deep and Daniel should double on most rivers. Instead, Doug only loses around 20k instead of 80k.

Because of the way they are playing with relatively infrequent 3 & 4 bets and with both players favoring small flop bet sizes, there are very few all-in pots, so that particular aspect of luck has fairly little to do with the outcomes.
