Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?

I saw Dough briefly at the WSOP waiting in line for the bathroom. I couldn't help it but a huge smile crossed my face as I began to think of all the things I could say to him. But he looked at the line (which was long) and left.

That was only encounter with him at the WSOP.

This cannot be a real advert, surely? It's like one of those ones which never gets aired because it'd get insta-banned.

Plus it wasn't that funny.

I didn't see Doug Lee in it also. Unless Doug Lee was the moaning *****?

But then that would mean Phil married Doug.

That post was a huge fail in a thread full of win imo.

Doug was sitting on the floor at the end of the bed. Pretty decent role imo.

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?

This thread is delicious. Only played with Doug once, at the Venetian a couple of years ago. Knew I had seen him before but couldn't place it. Seemed arrogant at the time and then forgot about him, hilarious to see all this.

Anyway, had the pleasure of doubling through. Had raised before with an 83s and showed it down for a loss. Couple rounds later AA and Dougie couldn't let his hand go. Good times.

Yeah I think in Europe it could get some TV time, personally I thought that commercial was extremely funny.

Hahah yeah, thought about pointing it out in my post, but it's funnier when you spot it yourself.

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?

So I am one of the ones that came to the conclusion that Doug Lee was a toolbox BEFORE I read this thread. Happy to find that others share the sentiment.

This situation I am about to describe was in June during the WSOP, but was at the Venetian playing $2/5. Asian guy sucking on a smoothie sits down with a $300 stack in a game where we are fairly all deep. He looks vaguely famliar to me but I figure I must have just played him before, no way a "pro" sits down with $300.

Anyway, short stack Asian takes the 4 seat and right away, the kid in the 3 seat goes crazy. "Aren't you Doug Lee? Man, I have you on DVD, I loved you when you won XXXX." I had watched the kid play for awhile and could tell he was touristy and tight. The fact that he was super excited about meeting a "professional" player confirmed this.

So time goes by and Doug Lee toolbox busts out and reloads a couple of times. He does manage to suck out on yours truly when I flop top 2 on a JT7 board and he calls with 78 because he is "pot committed" after his turn bluff and hits a gutterball. I tell him "world class move, Doug" but it was really no big deal. We kind of laughed about it.

Anyway, the angle play. Doug Lee toolbox finally has some money in front of him. His fan, the tight kid, has like $700, and you can tell he is up on the session and pretty happy with it. Doug Lee toolbox might have $500.

So the kid and Doug Lee toolbox get into a pot that was raised pre-flop. The flop is all diamonds. I'll tell you now, the kid has flopped K-high flush. On the turn, the kid bets it, but he is nervous, clearly nervous, as the pot has gotten somewhat big and after all, there is 1 hand that can beat him. Doug Lee toolbox is the only caller. The river comes, only the original 3 diamonds are on the board, the board is not paired, and the kid is still not all-in but is getting ready to bet the river. Doug has position.

Doug Lee toolbox says to him, "Before you bet, I've got the nut flush. But if you want to chop it right now, I will. You're a fan. But if you bet, I will have to call and you will lose it all." The kid is all confused. I'm not in the hand, so I can't say anything, but many of us at the table laugh. I mean, talk about insta-shove.

This goes on for a bit and finally, the kid hasn't acted yet, they keep talking, and Doug Lee toolbox shows the Ace of diamonds. But not his other card. Of course! Finally, the kids agrees to chop the pot !?!!!? ... and shows KJ of diamonds as he throws them in. Doug Lee toolbox then throws in his cards but of course, he DOESN'T show the hidden card which obviously wasn't a diamond as the dealer chops up the pot.

Unreal. We talked about that play for a solid 2 hours after that happened. Doug Lee toolbox was pretty happy with himself. "Hey, I let him off, he's a fan."

He did not give the thumbs up pose though.

I saw Doug Lee on the strip a few days ago. He was walking the other way, should have followed him to get some more toolbox stories.

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?

2006 WSOP $5.000 pot limit hold'em tournament

Lex "RaSZi" Veldhuis cracks Doug's aces twice. First with J4 and then later with 96 and Doug starts crying at the table, literally.

That's what Lex told me, I wil ask details later but then he added him on facebook and tried to be cool. Then this year he again was on the table with Veldhuis and said "I remember you, you are crazy" while laughing and trying to make the table laugh with him. So Veldhuis said "At least now your laughing, last time you were crying". Doug was quiet after that.
