This is the start of all Doug Lee stories. Sometimes he goes on to win a circuit event. Most times not. Luckily he is also a successful real estate inwestor.

I vote that this thread be ended, and deleted, and replaced with a thread that can only contain complimentary Doug Lee comments. This thread should never resurrected until the Canadian Superbomber has carpet bombed vegas poker tables with the remainder of his bankroll and retired broke to the great white north.

Doug Lee's greatest investment was investing in Doug Lee!

So I just joined 2+2 a few days ago and I chose my name in honour of this thread. Pure gold. These stories are great. And that video of him being interviewed by the Calgary T.V. station is classic. I haven't seen choking like that since UFC 62.

One of my first poker experiences involves Doug Lee. In relation to most of the other stories in this thread, mine rates at about 2 out of 10, but I'll tell it anyway. I used to live in Calgary and I played poker in the various card rooms scattered throughout Calgary, starting in about 2003. My very first live tournament was around that time (before Doug Lee was Doug Lee). It was a $100 buy-in at The Elbow River Casino (I think this is considered DL's home court). I didn't know what the hell I was doing at the time and DL was at my starting table. I had seen him once or twice before playing the $20-40 limit game (I've never played higher than $5/10 limit myself). As I recall he was walking around the room with a Poker Stars or Paradise jacket like it was a goddamn suit of armor. And I **** you not, I actually heard someone refer to him as "The Superbomber" before the tournament (as in, "Hey Superbomber, you gonna take this thing down?"). Amazing, I know. From the beginning of the tournament, he opened every single pot that was limped or folded to him preflop. I got sick of it so a hand came up where I was in the big blind, he opened the standard 3X in the hijack and I looked down at something like J-3. I reraised him about half my stack and he sat there like a goon for about two minutes with that creepy little sneer of his before he mucked his hand. Feeling like a hotshot for thwarting this so-called "Superbomber," I showed my J-3 which elicited a smattering of "oohs" from the table. Not to be embarrassed, he reached into the muck to grab his discards which were rags (5-2 or something). And I will never forget what he said next: "You want to try to bluff ME? You can't bluff a bluffer."
Pwned by Doug Lee.

I actually think he busted on the very next hand when someone trapped him for all of his chips as he tried to continue being a hero. I guess the point is, my impression of him was that he was incredibly cocky before he even won the circuit event. I haven't seen him since he won it so I can only imagine what kind of ego he carries around. But I'll tell you, I couldn't believe my eyes the day I tuned into ESPN and saw him winning a major tournament. I felt like I was in the twilight zone.
