Guy had one of the most impressive years in 2007 I wonder if that was a fluke or if he could do it in 2008??

Link to his stats.

Plays live tournament poker as well as anyone. Would be shocked if he doesn't have a great 2008 as well. He's also one of the nicest guys on the circuit, without question.

i dont play tournaments but i don't know how many players have "fluke" years especially when you consider the avg buy-in for the tournaments. i'm sure he is an absolutely talented tournament player and would expect his 2008 to be very solid as well.

I had minor interaction with him in Tunica 2 years ago (ate dinner one night with him & my friend after he played against said friend in a tourney). Seemed like a good guy and I haven't seen/read/heard anything to the contrary since.

Wasn't he one of Lindgren's horses at the WSOP? Was Lindgren's name brought up by Gavin Smith as possibly moving chips in events from one horse to another?

one would think not since Lindgren has backed Smith for quite a while.
Bill is def a nice guy.

i dont know if its because he picked up hands or not but i suspect because he was better than me and didn't care as much about the bubble but when i played with him in the wsop main event around the bubble,

i would raise a moderate hand like 88 and he would keep reraising me the perfect amount so that i could not profitably call

stuff like that is situational luck of course but in general he's tough solid but plenty aggressive, and constantly makes your life miserable.

he was also very very nice to me as i left the main event, very disappointed, complementing my play and congratulating me on my cash.

i guess in short, for me generally the toughest live players are the ones who sense your weakness and know how to act upon it. also the toughest, you never really know where they are at but seem to have the goods when push comes to shove

the best i have played with are mizrachi, takeover, edler, helmuth (but for other reasons, great at smallball) and jc tran.

of course, bill's an excellent player. he could have an amazing or terrible year in 2008, as could just about anybody on the professional circuit.

more importantly, he's a good guy to have drinks with. yeah he's the witty, charming, life-of-the-party type guy of course, but even better he will absolutely insist on paying

definite class act. as another kind of random note, after the wsop main event last year, i found myself rewatching two bust-out interviews, of course scotty's 11th place, but just as often bill's 23rd. while of course i feel sick to my stomach watching, i find the genuine pain of a champion suffering defeat inspiring, if that makes any sense. also, both manage to make me smile at points (mostly as a result of speaking of life outside of poker), which is kind of inspiring in another way.

here is the link
to all the bust-out interviews (naturally i watched them again while writing this post). i think there might be a few other good ones but i can't recall at the moment.

Bill was very active in the only tourney we ever played together, so I labeled him as a monkey. After the tournament I was watching his video, and this guy was outplaying people left and right. I learned a lot of him from watching him, one of the most important things being is that you have to play to win. It sounds obvious, but he reinstated it to the point where I actually started applying it. Bill doesn't have much fear, he's an aggressive gambler, he's been playing this game for many years, and it doesn't hurt that he is a very smart guy. His image threw me off (his plan succeeded), but I still feel he's a bit too much of a gambler sometimes. You definitely don't want him at your table (unless you're me). For 2008 I predict either less than 300 or more than 1.5

His 2007 results and his comeback when he won his WPT (WSOP bracelet and WPT title in the same year, I present to you The Stunning One) are SICK to say the least.

I was friends with Bill at law school at Berkeley 10 years ago and everything people say about him is true - pure class act and very smart. Read his latest article in Bluff Magazine if you want to get a feel for his poker ethic.

So glad to see his success - well deserved. Hope his 2008 is half as good as 2007 was.

I've played with Bill for stretches at the most recent 5diamond @ bellagio and the PCA, and he really is a cool guy and literally one of 2 "live" players I have found to be very strong with their betting mechanics and good at playing situations and players (the other being david pham).

but more important i guess is that he is a really genuine nice guy which speaks volumes in the live tournament community because most live tourney "pros" seem to suck at life on a limited sample.

his profile is a good way to showcase live swings. from 1998 to 2006 only small cashes (considering the stakes he is playing) and then BOOM! 3million in 2007.

Bill Edler crippled me at the 5 Star $25K main event in 2006. Day 2, I was 14th going in with 185K. Got put on a table with Patrik Antonius, Mark Seif, Fred Bonyadi, Alex Jacob, Bill Edler, David Sklansky, and several other top players throughout the day.

It was a choppy day for me. With 5 hands left in day 2, I had a slightly below average stack. Blinds are 1-2K, and I had 120K. I raise it to 7K UTG with KK. Patrik calls. Edler thinks a bit and smooth calls with AA in mid position with 105K. Button calls, as does one of the blinds.

Flop comes Q rag rag with 2 suits. I bet the pot. 35K. Patrik folds. Bill thinks a bit, then goes all in for 63K more. Everyone folds to me. I make a crying call. I figure it was 50-50 between QQ/AA/set v. AQ or a draw. Anyway, no K for me, and I bust a couple hands later.

Bill was having a tough 2006, with several bubble bustouts or final table near misses. He's an excellent player, so I was not at all surprised to see him break through in 2007.
