A situation arose at ph over an extra 5k chip being given to some players in error.

2 players checked in, were given chips, and went to their assigned seats. Upon reaching their seats, one player said to the dealer he had an extra 5k chip in his starting stack.

The dealer took the 5k chip aside and called floor over to retrieve it. The other player, obviously aware of the situation said nothing.

The table at this point realized that the second player was given an extra 5k chip as well and called the floor back.

Lappy gets agitated and is angry at the table for outing him.

Eventually he gives the chip back and posts a "heartfelt apology" on twitter.

In situations like this would you say something if you were given an extra chip, or just consider it an error in your favor?

obviously you give it back as it is unfair to others. If the casino gave you 5k than i say **** the house and take it(donate it to charity afterwards) but against other players give it back

Here's a general rule for life: "If you become aware of a mistake, you should fix it."

This should not be complicated.

at a rio 250 deepstack this year near the bubble a super drunk guy next to me kept knocking over his chips at the table as there was a slant downward toward the table at the edge

i kept telling him keep his stacks away from the edge due to the slant and that they would eventually fall as they kept slanting

he of course didnt listen and kept his stacks right on this slanted edge like a car wreck waiting to happen

then he proceeds to knock off a whole stack of 5k chips onto the ground while trying to save his stacks that were slanting...this flicked one of my five k chips off of a stack of mine too and onto the ground...

as he is picking up the chips i tell him one of those 5k chips is mine as i had even stacks and i saw his horrible attempt at a save perfectly flick one of my chips off the top of my stack...

he is adamant that they are his but tells me i can have it....not wanting to look like an angle shooter i tell him look man im sober youve had a few, i saw it happen, my stacks were even before, now this one is one short, i saw it happen, i know its mine

he says why dont we call the floor over...i say okay...we explain to floor what happens....floor takes the 5k chip and puts it in her pocket

bad beat

If i knew i'd get away with it all the way i would keep it, but without this information i would give it back only because keeping it and getting busted would result in disqual and hence not worth the risk. I need all the +EVs i can get.

I was in a tournament and the dealer award the pot to the wrong player. He then pushed the pot to the right player who was on my left. There was a lot of chatter after the mistake happened.

Two hands later, I looked down at my stack and noticed I had an extra 1k chip in my stack. I stopped the game and alerted the table. Since the tournament had just started and I had not played a hand, clearly the chip wasn't mine.

After some discussion, the chip was given to the player to my left as the chip was probably inadvertently pushed towards my stack by the dealer. In the grand scheme of things, it probably would have had zero barring on the tournament but you should always try to do the right thing.

So when is the OP going to tell us what the dilemma was he referenced in the thread title? Hardly seems like a difficult decision for anybody. If you are an honest person, it's an easy decision to turn in the chip. If you are a dishonest person, it's an easy decision to keep it. It seems this whole "what would you do facing this dilemma" question was just a cover to create a thread to publicize the error by Lappy.

di·lem·ma

1. a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially equally undesirable ones.

2. a difficult situation or problem.

3. an argument forcing an opponent to choose either of two unfavorable alternatives.

Does Chainsaw REALLY think there is some sort of "dilemma" ? If so he may be ignorant of the meaning of the word or perhaps of what tournament rules might say about what quantity of chips are purchased for a buy-in.

It's a 5K chip so I'm guessing it was Alec Torelli trying to hide it.

Obvious cheating to keep it since it negatively affects the rest of the tournament no different to if you'd done a men the master and pulled an extra 5k chip out of your pocket.

A Crown cashier overpaid me once on a mincash in an 1k event (1k extra).

I told them on the spot they overpaid me and the cashier insisted no they didn't. I asked if she was sure and she said yes. That's about when it becomes closer, since it doesn't affect other players in this instance and it's just the casino's money and you've notified them of the mistake.

In that instance I told the cashier i'd be 'over there when you realise you made a mistake', she looked at me weird and I wandered over to a cash table. About 15 mins later the cashier rushed over to me with the room's main supervisor making the whole 'i've made a terrible mistake' speech. Laughed a bit, gave 1k chip back.
