Rake-free home games exist.

Openbazaar is a very young project. I don't think it'll happen overnight. But, the more educated, tech savvy, younger generation will get it.

So you can't use Openbazaar (a very young project) to make an argument. Wait until it beats Amazon.com and come back here.

It's not like it crashed and burned. Openbazaar is not yet the number one online marketplace but it is fee free, doesn't profit, has had investors, is conducting business, has products & customers.

I will probably invest / donate to decentralized poker in one way or another. I won't be alone.

Yeah, I'm going to wait to deposit anything until the government gives a yay or nay on the legality of this.

The government cannot control a decentralized network. That's one of the main selling points.

Theory and reality are often two very different things.

Do you also believe the government has the power to declare bitcoin illegal and shut it off?

I'm not naive enough to put anything past the government and what they're willing and able to do for control. It seems you are.

Do you think the government must allow the sale of narcotics, prostitution, slavery, or nuclear weapons because they were sold on a "decentralized" website? There's nothing they can do, right? Again, reality trumps theory every time.

Narcotics, prostitution, slavery, and nuclear weapons all have properties that make their illegality reasonably enforceable.

A decentralized poker site has no such properties. Nor will decentralized sportsbetting. Nor does the bitcoin network.

7 years ago Bitcoin was invented. Give decentralized poker 3-4 years and this will be future of online poker

What properties are those?

Just a guess: you're a millennial, right?

Just send it to my bitcoin address, I'll run a litmus configuration on it and get back to you.

That's a good point and a strong distinguishing factor from bitcoin. This will count as income and the Feds will want their cut. All the more reason why they'll do whatever they can to shut it down. Or legalize it so they can tax it.

Bitcoin transactions are already legal in the USA. The government can get its cut when you use a legit clearinghouse to convert bitcoins to dollars.

These questions about legality seem bizarre to me. What on earth makes people think this would in any way, shape, or form change the legality? There's no laws specific to poker being centralized or decentralized, nor are there any specific to what currency you're playing for. This is still online poker - it's no more legal or illegal than it is on any other site, with the exception of the US-regulated sites in NV, NJ, and DE, of course.

Of course, this could change the enforceability of some laws, but that's a different issue.

Hmm...so similar clearinghouses will have to be built for poker cashouts? And those would have to be government approved specifically for poker cashouts because you aren't actually playing poker with bitcoins. That sounds tricky.

I'm telling you guys, the government will do anything and everything they can to block this. They'll find loopholes and ways of doing it. Again, unless they legalize it.

The clearinghouses are already plentiful and one can conceal how the bitcoins were used.

Copied from somewhere...

Quote:
A governmental body in any jurisdiction would be fairly limited in their options to eliminate bitcoin. They may be able to regulate and hinder the two-way convertibility with political currencies but that is more of a conversion issue rather than an attack against bitcoin transactions directly. Practical elimination of bitcoin would therefore require shutting down the telecommunications infrastructure that facilitates the peer-to-peer technology of the distributed block chain. Perversely, this action would hinder the rest of the e-commerce activity that occurs online.

Furthermore, a governmental body's actions would be limited to its geographic sphere of influence, just as Egypt struggled to control its mobile SMS infrastructure during January 2011. For software more precisely, a good example from the past would be the encrypted email software, Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), created by Phil Zimmermann in 1991. Since it was prohibited by law to distribute the high-grade encryption software itself from the United States, the PGP code was transcribed to text format in a line-by-line fashion and then published as an article or pdf file that was distributed via MIT.

Just as PGP now operates in every nook and cranny of the world as a liberating force for privacy, the bitcoin protocol will remain globally disbursed even if a cataclysmic event necessitates a new genesis block.

Without a centralized server generating the random numbers for the dealt cards, one or more of the peer machines on the poker network would be responsible for this task. How exactly are we supposed to verify the integrity of the random card selection from unknown and distributed peer machines? The process of securing the transmission of the dealt cards is easy and verifiable - the process for verifying that the actual cards generated are not rigged is a completely different matter.

Anyone that uses bitcoins (or openbazaar!?) to back the opinion that decentralised poker is the future really needs to go for a walk on the real world where people use dollars to buy on Amazon. Not the opposite.

Best you can say is that decentralised poker is future for geeks.
I'll be happy to keep playing recs on PS, 888, etc. Real companies, with profits, investors, business, marketing and player pool.

But well... what else can I say? Some people believe in Karl Marx.

first post here

this is REALLY the future, the future of Internet is doing everything AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE to the way we do in real world

when you play a cash game you dont deposit first on some account, you just sit on the ****ing table with your money, buy chips and play, no one will know if you lose or if you win big, if you sit, go allin 100k and win you take 200k and put in your pocket, no government will ever know that you did that

in 20 or 30 years we will look to the poker sites and many other things on the internet and see clearly how outdated they are, the centralized system was the only way in the 90s of course but we are in 2016

two things can happen

1) this virtue poker will have tremendous success and be the leader in 2046

2) a big company with more money will use the same idea and virtue poker will get only the moral credit
