Thoughts on the "skill based" aspect of this brick & mortar casino poker offering and whether it will be popular among patrons?

Also any feedback on the game from actual players or what Las Vegas Strip players have seen/heard as far as customer reaction would be great.

Yeah. I wouldn't have imagined 12+ years ago when I began to use "skill based" as an argument for non-prohibition of poker that the term would ultimately be perverted in this way.

Just goes to show you to be "careful what you wish for" and to not assume "skill based" means the exact same thing to a poker grinder that it does to gaming companies.

7 years, 4 states, yet these "skill based" games somehow sidestep regulations (even if it's b&m casinos in this case) when traditional online poker formats fail to gain traction.

Holy Grail for many operators and game suppliers of late has been how to encourage millennials to spend more time on gaming floor.

Industry has noticed a trend in this demographic where they spend less time gambling and more time on other entertainment options while in Vegas and other gaming destinations.

Skill based games (like one in the vidoe) were hyped up quite a bit and expectations were high that this new gaming option would appeal to millennials. Time will tell but to date these games have not come anywhere close to meeting expectations.

Similar to server based slots that were all the rage within the industry several years ago. They were hyped , discussed, anticipated and were going to "revolutionize" most slot floors with dynamic flexibility. Fast forward a few years, I cant think of any relevant installation .

Sometimes new technologies look better on paper than in practice.

FWIW Gamblit (mfg of above game) is a great company and has a wide variety of very cool games and is an exciting technology. I'm just not convinced yet it has a place on gaming floors.

That looks like it would appeal to people with brain damage. Like a sledge hammer to the head type of brain damage.

I think in this one, not only do they have an edge from the game itself (I'm assuming), but by offering the player a lower variance payout, the player trades EV for the reduction in variance. Usually people play slots and stuff to INCREASE their variance, which I guess is ironic or something.

I'm not sure if any of what I'm posting has a point. It'd be interesting if a skilled player had an edge at the making a poker hand vs random fish and the rake. Also occasionally the dealer should offer a deal which is plus EV for the player or close occasionally.

Points I like are about this game: there is a skill based portion that resolves itself quickly, not sure how fun it is though, could be advantageous to skilled or quick thinker good with probabilities. At least I think its skilled base. Then there's an option to reduce variance or give up EV if you choose, also depends on calculating odds perhaps, though maybe theres always a decent house edge on this part. Still gives certain players option to reduce their EV further by making a "bad" choice.

Isn't Deal or No Deal basically a giant illustration of the Monty Hall problem? You're always better off trading your case for the unchosen case at the end.

No. Monty never opens the door with the car, which is what gives us our advantage in switching. That element is not present in Deal or No Deal.
