We studied 15,428 adults aged 45–64 years, in four US communities, who completed a dietary questionnaire at enrolment in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study (between 1987 and 1989), and who did not report extreme caloric intake (<600 kcal or >4200 kcal per day for men and <500 kcal or >3600 kcal per day for women). The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. We investigated the association between the percentage of energy from carbohydrate intake and all-cause mortality. Finally, we assessed whether the substitution of animal or plant sources of fat and protein for carbohydrate affected mortality.

Both high and low percentages of carbohydrate diets were associated with increased mortality, with minimal risk observed at 50–55% carbohydrate intake. Low carbohydrate dietary patterns favouring animal-derived protein and fat sources, from sources such as lamb, beef, pork, and chicken, were associated with higher mortality, whereas those that favoured plant-derived protein and fat intake, from sources such as vegetables, nuts, peanut butter, and whole-grain breads, were associated with lower mortality, suggesting that the source of food notably modifies the association between carbohydrate intake and mortality.

Our findings suggest a negative long-term association between life expectancy and both low carbohydrate and high carbohydrate diets when food sources are not taken into account. These data also provide further evidence that animal-based low carbohydrate diets should be discouraged. Alternatively, when restricting carbohydrate intake, replacement of carbohydrates with predominantly plant-based fats and proteins could be considered as a long-term approach to promote healthy ageing.

There are several possible explanations for our main findings. Low carbohydrate diets have tended to result in lower intake of vegetables, fruits, and grains and increased intakes of protein from animal sources, which has been associated with higher mortality. Long-term effects of a low carbohydrate diet with typically low plant and increased animal protein and fat consumption have been hypothesised to stimulate inflammatory pathways, biological ageing, and oxidative stress. On the other end of the spectrum, high carbohydrate diets, which are common in Asian and less economically advantaged nations, tend to be high in refined carbohydrates, such as white rice; these types of diets might reflect poor food quality and confer a chronically high glycaemic load that can lead to negative metabolic consequences.

Do you think anyone cares about your questionable musings? Of course no one gives a ****, yet you continue posting. Why? Because you are entitled to do so, want to have your opinion heard, engage in a discussion. The same is true for these guys, except for them it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume other people want to read their opinions.

It is just a shame she can't find some famous poker player with hair plugs, high body fat and unsexy body, who is equally desperate and self centred. Unfortunately I can't think of anyone who matches that description.

Episode #9 of Daniel's podcast included a brief section on partypoker, but only player funds protection levels in UK, not to ongoing backing/staking/PPL$/lack of transparency controversy. (1:23:40-1:25:21)

There is a part about Mason and David Sklansky where an audio clip is used. The conversation is a tangent from a discussion of how Daniel unwinds in his trailer at the WSOP instead of jumping into another tournament immediately after busting out. (1:12:15-1:12:53)

In the most recent episode of DAT Poker Podcast (#11), Daniel talked about having Tourette's (no verbal tics) as an explanation for why he sometimes blinks a lot and how being around other people with Tourette's triggers him. Someone in this old thread about his blinking says DN said something about it being anxiety-related on his website, but apparently he's been mentioning it on Twitter. It's easy to understand why he would be less open about it in the past.

It makes we wonder if people are going to start blinking a lot around him to try and get him to twitch a bit if they play with him.
