That aside, his appearance ( he had a surgery, and grinds poker for a living for god's sake), cashing 2x in 30 MTTs (variance guys come one wtf) and going through swings with IRL stuff going on, breaking up with GF actually make him more human, normal and relatable, not sure why people keep bringing those up here...

But this is the DNegs thread. DNegs is basically an effete cringey wormy little guy who made millions playing poker, and not because of his math skills. He started out as a pool hustler. Don't take him at face value. Beyond that, he is what he is and he's not that bad. I always root for him.

From what I saw of the TV coverage, there was no single hand where he lost a significant portion of his chips. He was pretty card dead and tried to make a number of small moves that basically never worked out for him.

Exactly what kind of high stakes action did Tom muscle through? That is the criteria that Daniel was ranting about. I know he helped get smoking banned, which is a plus. But I highly doubt he played high stakes and was respected by his peers, which is criteria for getting in

Yes, he won an 18 person SNG that only paid out a Corvette. Players weren’t taking that very seriously. Again, he didn’t play high stakes action and wasn’t respected by those that did. Which is what is the criteria that the HoF votes on. Nice guy, great historian, but a weak HoF member

I feel for DNegs. It must be so infuriating to bust out like that and then to have all those cameras in your face and having to keep up the nice guy persona. I really wanted him to win.

Who? I’m all for bashing DN, but the guy did play the high stakes games for a steady amount of years. He took on a few online high stakes regs in the early days. His battles against Dreamclown multiaccount crew at 500-1000 was epic back in the day. He fits the bill. Some of the things he says is pretty silly, but his results aren’t.

I'm pretty sure in 2005/6 DN had a deal at the opening of the Wynn poker room where he would play anybody heads up. The fact that there wasn't a line out the door would tell me he was at least semi-respected during the time.

Similar to what Ted said, it is also not called the "High Stakes Cash Games" HOF either. Tournament Poker is a part of the equation, and something like ~44 WSOP cashes with 4 WSOP Bracelets including Main Event Winner would certainly warrant consideration.
