I see both sides of it. Online bracelets have always felt silly, but it makes sense this year due to the unique circumstances, and it's not like the "prestige" of the bracelet was ever totally sacred. A lot of the old WSOP events in the 80s-90s had fields of 100-200 people. The WSOP gives out a lot more bracelets now, but the field sizes are a lot bigger on average and the player skill level at the top is much higher. It cancels out to some extent.
You have a valid point about the geographic restrictions though. Personally, I can't play any of this stuff where I am, and the COVID situation makes it problematic to visit NV or try to slip into Canada. I'm saving my poker money for future live tournaments instead of trying to camp out in some hotel room while virus cases are spiking in Vegas.
