This ... There's a long list of old school 'poker' Players that we saw who used their ability to put a Player on a hand and apply pressure based on the spot. In today's world, and really as a result of the exposure to this 'old' content (of which we know they all should've profited from), it's a bit more difficult to put a Player on a specific hand. So we 'range' them and lots of poker decisions are made on being right 'enough' of the time to be profitable in the long run, not just in the ongoing hand.
In a bit of a strange comment maybe, I think today's online content is more defined and yet can't be as specific than what would apply in days gone by. In simpler terms ... We have now 'found out' that there's more than one way to play AA!!
The more you play the more you should recognize the similarities in spots that come up and you will be able to think the way that DNegs talks. What's happening in today's game (with tournament play getting the majority of the exposure) is that Players are now recognizing that the Player applying the pressure really shouldn't have a hand here either, and they make their decisions based on what 'should' be happening most of the time.
That might all be a bit of a derail to your original question ... but I guess my point is that even bad regs such as myself can sit down at a typical 1/2 table and make the very same reads that made DNegs famous quite often. The real reading ability at a poker game is not only realizing what the other player has, but figuring out if you can get them to do what you 'need' them to do in order to be profitable. GL
