Have you ever seen graphs from top online MTT players? All of them have gone on downswings (in avg buyins) worse than bombing a few WSOP schedules.

You're talking about at most "a few thousand" MTT buyins, at a variety of stakes and formats. That's not even close to a meaningful sample.

I think WSOP events are worth a little more in sample size compared to an identical on line number of tournaments because of the size of the buy ins being much higher than on line.

I would be more inclined to judge someone's results on 500 x $2K ABIs than 500 x $50 ABIs on the basis that the $2K ABI comps are more likely to be played properly by the bulk of the competitors so are a truer reflection of skill and performance.

Also, players are one tabling and have way more time to consider each and every decision than on line. So a single live comp decision might be worth ~3 equivalent on line decisions in terms of measuring a player's performance and skill level over a sample of tournaments. Making a decision in 15 seconds while multi tabling is not performing as someone's peak for most players.

(your ICM (tournament life) is easier to protect in a live comp than it is typically in an on line comp, apart from in certain types of live comps such as unlimited re-entry ones, or if you are buying in very late, very short.)

In DNegs specific case, he should be able to protect himself against some of the possible negative variance by game selecting comps that he has the biggest edge in and that have the slowest, deepest structures.

A lot of his game selection this year hasn't utilised the above.

Live and on line are two different animals anyway in terms of the use of player profiling and some live reads and are played less GTO and more exploitative style than on line MTTs so I think the measurement of what is or isn't a meaningful sample size for live MTTs should be different as variance (run good/bad) plays a lesser role in results than on line.

Some live players who may not be the best players technically just have a knack of navigating fields in the games and structures that they are strongest in.

Way behind on this thread but this is pretty incredible given the field sizes and the fact that I assume he’s played the vast majority of them every year, plus I guess they would have been super soft for those first few years. Guess he was being all loosey goosey and eating a sandwich.

My stat was a little misleading because as someone else has pointed out he has had some FTs and 2nd places in non Hold'em tournies over the years since 2003, but even so I assume he has entered some comps like PLO, PLO8 and 8 Game at some EPTs, PCAs, WSOPEs and some other places as well as of course at a large number of WSOPs.

He probably would be one of the top Mixed Games players if he played them as cash games regularly, which is what the players who IMO have an edge on him in these comps do, e.g. Brian Rast, Shaun Deeb, Jason Mercier when he was active, Jeff Lisandro, James Obst, Matt Ashton, Benny Glaser, Adam Owen, Mike Matesow and quite a few others, even Eli Elezra and Luke Schwarz are slightly better bets than him to thrive in Mixed Games than him right at this moment because they play them regularly as cash games.

In the $10K Dealer's Choice featured in the last but one vlog he showed that he was not happy about a lot of the players nominating Badacey and Badeucy which he had already stated before sitting down in the comp that he didn't particularly like. Well if you are only 6 out of 10 skill wise in those two games you probably shouldn't be playing a DC comp where they can be nominated, and even more so if a number of your opponents are aware of this.

Thank you too.

I enjoy the game and every aspect of it too much to ever truly leave.

Note to myself not to get into confrontations on the forum, just let things go, and make my posts brief wherever possible.

I could have opened a brand new account that would not obviously have been me but chose to use the existing Mikey_D account which I set up as a one off Mike Dentale parody account at the time, as I don't mind it being known that it is me SageDonkey and knew that this would be discovered pretty quickly.

He hates being bluffed by a young pro, his coach. He'd rather call off to pot sized bets and be out with then allow the possibility of getting bluffed , it hurts him a lot more. I thought it was an easy river fold, but not Daniel.

Negreanu and mike matusow look more alike everyday.

Also, I always get the feeling from Negreanu’s vlog, that he combs his hair, to look like he didn’t comb it, and acts like that’s just what it looks like in the morning, but really, he spends lots of time in front of the mirror.
