Things getting testy between Smith and Koon at 2:06:35 - 2:14:00 of the Triton $100k Main Event final table for Smith asking for a moment of silence to think about his decision (preflop single raised pot). Koon says Smith does this all the time and VIPs have told Koon how miserable it is playing with Smith.

Koon obviously correct. Outrageously stupid for a high roller pro to ask recs (or anybody else) to be quiet as he’s making a preflop decision

O'Dwyer speaking up and telling Koon he is being rude. Sean Winter trying to be the peacemaker.

So there’s a shot clock and we’re still bitching about slow play.

I agree with both sides here....can't be telling the recs (who are the dead money in this field) to be quiet if they aren't being over the top. Koon could have easily brought this up on a break or off the table EASILY considering he says "this happens all the time". No reason to go at Smith in front of the cameras unless he was putting on a show for the VIPs to say "look im defending you on camera, I get an invite to the next private game right?"

Not slow play. Asking the table to be quiet when facing a decision. Which is ridiculous.

Who’s talking about slow play?

Dan Smith is asking some of the few recs in these tournaments to be quiet as he makes a preflop decision

Of the more important issues Koon was correct

Yeah sure he could have brought it up on break but he probably snapped for five seconds and brought it up then because I could easily see how it’s extremely annoying. And sometimes the more public and embarrassing the lesson is, the more it’s absorbed

Definitely this. Bringing it up privately wouldn't have done anything. Koon obv made the right choice as he then ships this main.

So people shouldn't get a few seconds of quiet to make a million dollar decision. It's not like this was some local 1-2 game or 100 buck buy in tournament

Yeah if private convo he probably would have just said, “thank you I’ll take that under advisement”

But it’s understandable if he just snapped. High roller pro whose life is these tournaments and he needs a moment with 20BB lol. How hasn’t seen every spot at least 50 times in his life?

Koon said it perfectly. 5 time banks, 20 bigs. Dan should already know what hes doing when the action gets to him.

That’s correct, they shouldn’t in these oh so common preflop spots.

Good point. The more public, the more Dan has to take on the advice.

Mike Watson and Steve O'Dwyer didn't get the memo about buzz cut day at the office.

Does Dan truly believe we think he needs the time because he doesn’t know what to do in this spot? That would be the most out of line part of all this. We all know Dan is stalling here simply because it gets him some extra small amount of ev and edges are thin. I guess it is customary to bring it up off the table if you are concerned someone is stealing too much ev at the table by stalling.

Koon implied that it was an ongoing/recurring issue and he finally snapped. That’s my read. Dan should put on some headphones if it’s going to bother him. I could understand if someone is screaming or blasting music, but if you can’t handle normal levels of conversation then it’s on you to find a solution.

If he had made the same request facing a decision for his stack or a large pot on the river I doubt anyone would have given him ****. The fact that it’s preflop srp makes it almost seem like satire.

If you read through some of the replies on twitter from a couple players who were there it seemed like it was a recurring issue. Could Jason have spoken to him away from the table, sure, but asking the VIPs at any point for a moment is pretty lol and probably deserves some level of public shaming. Keep in mind he campaigned to get the invite for the 200k where you must be invited by a VIP to play. Probably not great behavior if you want to get that invite again next year.

It’s not far fetched to assume that behavior like this in the past led to his inability to find an invite.

They are 6-7 handed at the final table of a 100k tournament. There are no VIPs only world beaters. It’s at triton so the vips talking to moon are the same regs who demand fast play in the short deck games. It’s clear to see koon is politically motivated here.

Koon may be more correct in general but in this specific context he is OOL

So who are the “dead money recs” in this $100K buyin final table lol?

As for Dan, I think it was pretty ridiculous, he was facing an open limp preflop with 99, 20 bigs. He doesn’t need “quiet time” for this, I think he just wanted all eyes on him for his dramatic all-in lol.

Lol @ Dan Smith literally talking like a reddit or twitter account in real life. Is he even a real human being?

Dan Smith is as real as it gets, and Koon is as smarmy of a player as I’ve ever seen at these stakes.

Lol at “politically motivated!”

No one else needs a moment for preflop decisions and I’m sure no one was completely out of line with chatter.

Koon probably just tired of BS and snapped. But having multiple VIPs finding someone miserable to play with is a pretty bad offense and needed to be addressed.
