Actually, it sounds like he doesn't. Forgoing the comfort for a few bucks is grossly overvaluing the value of a dollar, and I assume it makes him one of the less interesting people you can meet. As for him looking like death, you could see that from his WPT win. He made John McCain look like spring chicken.

He was a cash game player long before he was known as a tournament player. Normally that proves nothing, lots of players that were winning players twenty years ago are fishes now, but Dan strikes me as someone aware of his abilities, and someone who wouldn't sit in a game where he didn't have an edge.

Isn't Dan mega rich through real estate investments and the like.
Poker is only a small part of his income.

Breaking Newsflash:

Dan Harrington is apparantly a nit.

In other unrelated news, expert's have confirmed that the Earth is flat despite earlier reports to the contrary from the flat earth society.

Guys I'm not down playing his skills. He is definitely a smart guy. Knowing the technicals of poker and writing a book is one thing. Playing cash is very different.

Can someone here post a firsthand experience of playing in a cash game with Dan Harrington where he cleaned up??? Tournament, yes, but cash game? If so, I'll dampen the strength of my comments.

To the poster who commended his $60 PF raise, you obv don't know Commerce. A $60 PF raise will likely get 4-5 callers. Not good for isolating when you have a strong hand. It's a recipe for getting sucked out on.

Harrington is obviously a fish, OP, make sure you make it a point to follow him and play in his games.

OP: You do realize that Dan gave himself the nickname "Action Dan" in hopes that someone, anyone would give him some action because he knows that he's such a nit.
Sorry for being a nit, but in the Doyle Brunson Classic WPT episode he said that he chose the nickname as a sarcastic reminder to everyone of how nitty he was. This was so he would be able to bluff later.

also, um.. dan rules (not necessarily at poker)?

Dan has enough history and success -- including a long history of high stakes cash games and recently winning 1.6M last August at the Legends of Poker -- to invalidate one troll's posts on 2+2.

Who the hell knows:
a) if this is even true
b) if he was killing time or blowing off steam
c) why he was making certain decisions on any given day

Dan may be a nit, but to say he sucks at poker is just ridiculous.

It's true that a $60 preflop raise at the commerce is kind of weird, but if you're a skilled player you shouldn't mind seeing flops multiway as long as you're getting full value out of your hand. It would be a lot weirder if he just jammed it up real big after he's been playing super-nitty limp in poker and had to play his hand totally face up.

Reading thread, it does sound like
a. Dan Harrington was playing cash strangely/maybe bad in that session
b. There are wayyyy too many Harrington fanboys in here

But not as bad as being told that there is no Jesus.

When can we expect 2+2 to publish Volume 1 of "Ben FR on Cash Games"?

Mabe you should do a little more thinking before making such an inflammatory thread. I mean, you sat with him for what, 1 hour, mabe 2? That's 50 hands. Can you really make such a broad judgement with so little a sample size?

How do you know he wasn't just trying something different (experimenting)? Maybe he was distracted and wasn't playing his A game. Maybe he wasn't too experience with how the Commerce games go, so he was playing ultra-tight for awhile to get a feel for the game.

10-1 this OP sat there all night saying Dan is a nit, then called him the only time he moved his chips in.

Just because you are afraid to play post flop doesn't mean Dan isn't. Some players believe that is their biggest edge.

I have played with Danny Harrington for years. He is an expert Nl and limit player. His postflop play is superb. I would but him up against almost any of the name players in a NL cash game and expect him to win over the long term. I wasn't at commerce that night, but having played with Danny so many times I feel op is off-base, and incorrect in his conclusions.
