It’s been quite a performance so far at the final table. The live stream has just gone to its first break.

This may or may not be controversial. I don't know.

I would love to see some pro who is considered (rightly or wrongly) as a man of the people sell a huge portion of themselves at 1.0 - 1.0 and play in this event.

Daniel Negreanu regularly sells small portions of himself with no markup each World Series. I would love to see him sell $800,000 of himself at zero markup and to play in the One Drop.

The question is how many players actually have more than 20% of their own action?

If you're looking for a "man of the people" we're probably talking selling 95%+ and a huge amount of people would be willing to do that at no markup. The question is who would be willing to buy action from them.

Look no further for a man of the people

If you guys gather up $990,000 I’ll play in this event next time

Me too. That's the point

I'd even be willing to do it at a markdown. Charging only $989,900 for 99% if anyone is interested.

I doubt more than 4 or 5 of those guys even have 10 percent of themselves.

Einhorn Soloman and Santosh probably have all of themselves unless they sold small pieces to friends for shits and giggles.

Money has to come from somewhere obviously so is there a big money man staking many of the guys?

They might only have 10%, but if they have pieces of several other people that’s a nice tidy sum in play

There are several entities that stake a bunch of (super) high roller players. They are not interested in having their names or business discussed in public though. One of them has been a long time 2+2 member.

Outplayed like losing a huge flip AK vs JJ for 80 % of the chips in play?

They call it a flip but, ignoring suits, JJ is a 56/44 favorite over AK.

One of the most boring final tables ever. An exposition of nit play by top tier pros. Can’t imagine any new player being interested in playing nlh after watching 30 mins of this fold-fest.

Must of missed the triple barrel all in and the river check jam in the first hour. If you want to get new players in poker you turn it into a mega turbo flip fest and get Hevad Khan spinning around in circles with a chair on his head barking like a dog.

Do you want for them to play bad on purpose for the TV cameras when their own money is on the line?

I mean they're not gonna do that but his point is correct. It's not fun to watch.

Obviously if by some miracle final tabled some big event id try to win. But I would play fast, call the clock on tankers, drink and likely commit ICM suicide at some point due to lack of tournament knowledge.

His point is correct because that's the way tournament poker is when people know what they're doing. Especially with those stack sizes and ICM considerations.

Why do you think the WPT broadcasts were always edited down in post-production and achieved massive tv ratings. If you demand to see live poker, this is what you get. You can’t have your cake and eat it too as they say.

They already got a 1 hour version up and its great. Why cant a 6 hour broadcast have nonstop action comments are from people who clearly dont even play poker.

TheFly hit the nail on the head.

The poker boom that came with the introduction of the hole card cameras would have never been so big if they had live broadcasts back then. The edited versions were 5000% more entertaining. Those days are gone since information is so readily available so fast in modern times that results would be all over the place before an edited version could be produced.

It also doesn't help that there aren't as many fun characters playing nowadays either. The larger fields and longer structures favor both the higher skilled players and also younger players. Which are most often the skilled "math" types that spend a lot of time studying and also tend to tank the most. Which also cuts down on watchability.

The live streaming cash games are the only poker games that are watchable. The only reason for that is they curate the lineups to try to maximize the watchability and make it fun. Not really a way to do that with tournies. Tournies are naturally more attractive because of the stakes and elimination aspect, just the negatives are too hard to watch unless you really love tournament poker.

This is why everyone was raving about Game of Gold. Edited poker shows are/were the nuts.

One of the things the old WPT used to do was change and modify the blinds at the final table to give the short stacks a little bit of play, but also speed it up so they didn't have to pay a ton of production costs for the cameramen. Howard Lederer came up with a formula to make sure there was about 4.5 hours of play at the table and that filming wouldn't go over 6 hrs.

Dan wanted to discuss a deal 3-handed, Chewy declined. Chewy went from CL to busting in 3rd for $2.8M. The total prize money for the top three was $12.25M. If they did an ICM deal when Moorman busted and left $600k to play for, Chewy would have locked up about $4.0M with the chance to win over $4.5M. Although at that time, the average stack was over 60 bigs so there was plenty of play left.
