Can you imagine the outrage?
By the way there is precedent for this situation at wsop.
John cernuto was rushed to hospital late in an event.
His stack was blinded out. Wsop refused to refund his buyin, but players did.
Part of me feels this stuff, whenever possible, should almost always be up to the players. It's the players money funding the prize pool. Obviously leaving it up to the players is problematic on day 1 of an event like WSOP Main Event, but most MTT's it's really not hard to poll 10,20, even 50 tables. Under a special circumstance, if they want to allow another player to take over stack then who is anyone not involved in the tourney to say anything about it ? Especially some random local event that does not involve GPI/WPT/WSOP etc...etc...
On the other hand, I could see some total dgen players taking advantage of this as well. Take some chances early in a tourney, fail to win some big pots, and suddenly you are feeling chest pain and asking for a refund
Tournament Directors don't have the easiest job in the world.
