During the poker boom courtesy of Moneymaker, I often thought a Bicycle Club dupe could make it and even take down most other poker rooms. Now, not so much.

I'd settle for a large table games only area in a casino with a poker room in the center - just get me away from the freaking slots

Every time somebody bumps this thread I get excited because I think somebody has finally opened that poker-themed casino.

I used to play poker on this one riverboat that had some obnoxious slot that had a constant ding!-ding-ding!-ding-ding! jackpot that hit quite frequently right next to the poker tables and of course it was turned up to full volume.

I would always walk around and steal an "out of order" sign on some other machine and put the sign and a cup on the handle on this machine when I would come to play poker.

Look, Stanhope would be a great entertainment choice for your project, he merits a thread in NVG after all. Plus, being barred from all the Caesar's properties has to lower his asking price for a residency. Last we read, his manager was passed out drunk in the hall outside his room at the Rio. (Offer him a point in your hotel, I think the Corleone Family did that with Johnny Fontaine once they capped Moe Greene.)

I'd think your posting a link to your WRT's Poker Hotel Thread was the highlight of that thread....

A poker themed hotel? You should name it Birkenau because that's how miserable it would be.

My idea for a casino:

"The Green"

A new age casino/resort built around the idea of environmentally/ecologically-friendly practices. I.e. solar + wind power, plants/forests, food with quality ingredients, biodegradable cups/cutlery/packaging/etc, extensive gym on-site, no smoking, no single-use plastics.

It would still have all the action, gambling, and vices of a typical Vegas resort, but presented in a more responsible package that's in line with the direction and demands of the new century.

Las Vegas is an ecological nightmare and every time I'm there I'm struck by the decadence and waste. It's a microcosm of 20th century American society in that regard and that will probably have to change, so why not turn it into a selling point and get ahead of the trend?

Great idea for a city where 99% of the whales have to fly to.

I'm not sure what the relevance is. I mean, I sort of see your point, but I don't think you're looking at it correctly. There's not likely to be a casino that attracts the true environmentalist, no matter where it is. I think the idea would be to attract people who would come to Vegas already and want a better environmental choice, or those who would like to go but don't because of the waste and decadence and might change their mind when presented with such a choice.

Of course it's silly in a lot of ways, because it seems unlikely you could ever balance off the environmental impact of a casino in a desert, but that's not how it works with most of us. Other than the handful of people who are able to live their lives with a glass jar that contains all their trash for a year, the rest of us are constantly making positive environmental choices right beside bad ones, so the contradictions and/or hypocrisy of such a casino would be nothing new.

Not that I'm saying such a casino is destined to be a success; this was just my long-winded way of saying I don't think having to fly to visit such a casino dooms it.

Bad example, as that hotel did indeed suck and is currently closed for major renovations.

Perhaps TheAgnostic could be the WRT Poker Hotel marketing face, provided there is a big parking lot and truck stop showers provided onsite ....

Fun fact from that Wikipedia page: it’s actually (sort of, maybe, not actually, occasionally) still open!

“Nevertheless, to maintain its gaming license, the Moulin Rouge (like many closed properties) operates on a temporary basis for a state-mandated minimum of eight hours every two years, most recently on June 19, 2012 and on June 11, 2014.”

I don't know the current status. I think it has since burned down, again.

Could an Atari Themed Hotel make it in Vegas?

Gambling industry strategist, investor, and Eilers & Krejcik partner Chris Grove says that the Las Vegas Strip is "likely due for a fundamental overhaul" in a recent tweet.

Grove believes that "we’re entering an era where the Strip is likely to de-consolidate," -and- "that’s probably a good thing for Vegas and look forward to what independent operators could bring in terms of unique visions to a market that is likely due for a fundamental overhaul."

Chris' tweet was in response to Las Vegas-based columnist Marc Meltz, who posted several Atari hotel renderings.
