Ted, The Bicycle Club is an already established existing card club in L.A. since 1984 that decided to add an on-property hotel to compete with Commerce Club's on-property hotel.

The title of your thread is about Las Vegas. What is your fascination with continuing to post a photo the The Bike in Bell Gardens, CA?

.... and those 185 tables of players would instead drive to Las Vegas to play Ted's Palace Of Outstanding Poker?

Why was the Bike originally built ?

According to one criminal complaint,

“ "[Sam Gilbert] a wealthy Los Angeles businessman, was the first Gilbert to establish ties with the Kramer family when he befriended Benjamin Kramer's father, Jack Kramer, in 1978. At that time, Jack Kramer and Sam Gilbert came up with the idea of building a legal card club for the purposes of laundering Benjamin Kramer's dirty money."

I looked at a refinancing for the Bike in the early 1990s, it was a creation of its particular market and not a concept transferable to Las Vegas.

What does it offer in the Casino besides poker ?

The real estate on the Las Vegas strip is probably worth too much to be used on a lower-revenue activity such as poker on that scale.

I'm not sure how many people stay there mostly for poker, but I am fairly certain that the Bike gets more than half of its gaming revenue from non-poker. Poker revenue comes mainly from locals playing low stakes that are hard or impossible to make a living off of. Look at their list online. Those people aren't staying at the hotel. When they added the hotel (which only has 99 rooms), it was announced that they were adding a VIP high limit room with future plans for a poker high limit room. That is because table games are a priority over poker. I would guess that rich Chinese tourists playing Asian games are much more of a motivation for the hotel expansion than poker players.

How many cash games do you think the Bike runs, on average?

Just showing that there are hotels attached to huge poker rooms. They might not be in Vegas yet, but they are out there. Speaking of huge poker rooms. The biggest in the world (by #'s of tables) is the Commerce Club in California. It has over 200 poker tables. And like the Bicycle Club it has a hotel attached to it. Here's a photo of it.

The fact that you think what poker rooms in other states are doing is relevant to how one would do in Vegas once again shows how little you know of what you're talking about.

So it seems you believe a poker room in Vegas could never do as well as the poker rooms in other states. I would disagree. With the right rake, the right deals/promotions, the right ambiance of the place, and the right marketing, I think a poker room in Vegas with its 40 million tourists a year and its nearly 2 million gambling loving locals might do as well, or certainly well enough to become the #1 room in Vegas.

Of those 40M tourists, how many are there exclusively for poker? Surely you have the research for that, although I am sure it will be as flawed as the rest of your economic theory...

Further, 2M "gambling locals" does NOT mean poker enthusiast. After all, one of the distinctions between poker and many of the 'gambling' games is that there is far less of a 'gambool' element to poker. Hence, 'gambling loving' does NOT mean poker enthusiast...

You are using different definition of “make it” and “do well” than other people in the discussion. That’s been the sticking point.

I might have made an attempt at humor in 1 or 2 of my posts (e.g. Phil Hellmuth's Hot Dog Shop), but in the context of my 70 posts your out of context quotes that don't show the quotes I was responding to are ridiculous and a derail a serious thread. If you don't like the thread I created then stay out, but I doubt you will.

.... and generate enough net revenue from poker operations to cover the costs of the license, attract investment, build/buy a hotel and still eschew other gaming channels in your insistence on "poker only" themes.

Sorry, on a "highest & best use" allocation of casino floor space, poker gets beaten like a red-headed stepchild. In LA, there is less "best use" competition for space from other gaming channels than where operations come under an unrestricted Nevada gaming license.

However, congratulations you've finally scaled back your pipe-dream to something manageable, .... a poker room in Las Vegas, if run well, could do well.

Ipso facto, "some" room in Las Vegas will be the #1 room at any given time, why not yours.

If you had 2 competing water parks right next to each other, 1 having 100 of the same exact water slides and the other having 100 different variations of water rides.... where are the tourists more likely to go?

Seems like an easy game to figure out.

Ted seems to think it's still 2003-2004, when all these new "Poker Celebrities" were created from the novel ground-breaking show "The World Poker Tour". These "Celebrities" were hunted down while on tourny breaks for photos and autographs because, "Oh my gawd, I saw him on TV!"

Yo Ted, it's 2018 now, and those same "Celebrities", as well as new ones, are still around, except no one gives a sh*t anymore.

Go to WSOP and see how many people give a crap about photos and autographs compared to '03/'04. LOL.
