If I’m still that desperate to play with Daniel, I’ll just reg a 25k at Aria.
So you admit there would be a possibility some people would get all excited about flying from the UK to play poker with someone like Daniel on a Celebrity Night?

On one hand you seem to admit that this could happen but then you go against that line of thinking and are absolutely sure it couldn't work. Something is wrong with that reasoning.

And of course you realize the average poker player can't afford to be in a 25k game. Or even a 10k game.

There's a very small number of poker players who would be any kind of draw (and most of them are bound by other promotional contracts), their table presence is limited and not scalable, they're not going to do it for free, and even if you make playing with them dependent on staying at the hotel that's a very small amount of occasional revenue.

So no, nothing at all is wrong with that reasoning.

I have a feeling there are a lot of players who would stay at a hotel if they knew they could have a "meet and greet" and/or photo taken with some of these people. I believe all except maybe 2 or 3 are not bound to a contract.

How much would you need to pay the players to do this?

And please don't answer that Ivey and Negreanu would do it for the chance to set up a card table and sell autographs or whatever.

How much are you planning on charging for these rooms?

No. You seem to be confused.

It's a bad idea because it's not financially viable as a business.
There would be people interested to fly from a number of places to play with a big pro on a celeb night. Not enough though, not nearly enough to cover the costs of a hotel that does nothing else.

Celebrity Nights are exactly that. Nights. A special occasion. Not every nights.

Thanks for the addition of nationalities for some of them.

Are you aware of an annual event called the World Series of Poker? All of the players you list can be found there. Members of the public have access to the tournament rooms to rail their heroes and it's pretty easy to get a photo with them too. It's free to enter as a spectator.

Cool huh?

Edit: Ted, even Alex Dreyfus would think this is a bad idea.

I don't see much attraction in meeting any famous players, but could be just me. The only thing that i would be attracted to is good games , so when coming to Veags from Europe, i would likely stay at the hotel where there is most action.

Not true. If he could get that billionaire investor that Ted talks about, Dreyfus would give it his all until bankruptcy!

Your main idea, aside from your being an "idea man", is to build a poker themed hotel in the air, not in Las Vegas.

The website I looked at said some rooms like Ballys and MGM have $5 max rake and the poker rooms at the Orleans and Sams Town have $3 max rake. 66% higher rake is a big difference

Not sure what number of tables has to do with what I was talking about but it seems likely the fancy hotels at the corner of the Strip and Flamingo have much higher room rates than a place like the Orleans or Palace Station

Quote:
3. Drinks are free for poker players
Last time I played in Vegas, the poker room charged for brand name drinks. What Room doesn't charge for brand names?

Uber drivers face the same heavy traffic I do when driving, not to mention the additional cost.

There's still more traffic for most Center Strip hotels than there would be going to a place like the Lucky Dragon.

This site
https://www.pokernews.com/strategy/l...39.htm?pn=7206

says:

"MGM has been charging for parking since last summer, but it was only recently that locals began getting a bill as well. If you want to play poker somewhere like the Aria, Bellagio, MGM Grand, the Mirage or Mandalay Bay, it will cost up to $10 a day to house your car or $18 for valet."

Hi Howard! I’ve been working on a top secret project, looking to open a poker themed casino in vegas. Need investors, interested?

Another person who wants this thread to go away for some reason. Don't understand why people just don't stay out of threads they don't like.

One reason I don't understand is some people say poker is dying. Something like a poker themed hotel can only help poker overall and especially help authors and poker celebs who might make some extra income out of the place.

And I don't think hotels like Aria and Bellagio would be hurt by such a hotel because wealthy business owners and upper middle class people will always want to stay at places like that and really wouldn't care that much about the rake. But the ever decreasing young poker players and the lesser income people would care about a good bargain and a chance to maybe meet and greet people like Doug Polk and Chicago Joey. So something like this might keep them interested in poker instead of quitting the game altogether. Then when they get older and have a better income they can then go to the fancier places with the higher costs.

Ted, we all love your posts. Thanks for livening up the forums with your silly ideas. We're enjoying it. Any other themed hotels for Vegas or other cities come to mind? We want to hear your ideas.

I guess the lesson is that $40 million is a small price to pay to see the joy on a young man’s face when he comes down from his $59 room and gets to meet Chicago Joey.

Full disclosure. I own the Aria Hotel and Casino so I have a vested interest in Teds Poker and Pleasure Palace never seeing the light of day. I know for a fact that several other large casino owners in Vegas are following this thread very closely and are adjusting their 2018 Marketing plans accordingly.

I think there should be different rooms within the main poker room and each one could have a theme like Old west Deadwood, Monte Carlo, KGB room from Rounders and one could be just a kitchen table like you are playing at home.
