Could a Poker Themed Hotel make it in Vegas? Could a Poker Themed Hotel make it in Vegas?

They have a pirate themed hotel, a Middle Ages/Castle themed hotel, why not a Poker themed hotel. A nine story China themed hotel that is less than 2 years old is being auctioned today in Las Vegas:

It might be too late for some rich poker enthusiast to buy that one but there could always be one up for sale down the road.

There are millions of poker players around the world. It might be nice to have a hotel they could call their own with many low rake tables and other deals. They could have pictures of poker celebs and past poker events around the casino and lobby--- kind of like the old time pictures that are around the Horseshoe Poker Room.

Could you just imagine a 9 story hotel in Vegas with a casino floor that looks like the Bicycle Club in California, and a decent rake to boot.

Maybe some of you can think of some other amenities or promotions such a poker themed hotel/casino might have.

Maybe have a poker celeb week. Doyle hosts one night, maybe Tom Dwan the next. Yes, the poker community would have its own place to hang out while in Vegas.

What advantage is their for the hotel operator to offer low rake tables instead of higher-income-generating slots and table games, or do you see this as a poker-loving billionaire's way of giving back to the community?

Or you could just go to the Bellagio almost any time of the year

There are hotels that make it in Vegas that offer no gaming.

And having no slots and just poker tables might actually be a positive for a lot of people. And you might even have a token craps table for players like Ivey and Cloutier.

Walk around any casino and take a look at all the people not playing poker and how many are playing poker. Can't imagine poker players are big revenue for any casino in Vegas. Absolutely zero chance this happens.

As stated above there are profitable hotels in Vegas that offer no gaming. The poker only angle, and being around others of the poker community, might be a draw to stay at the hotel for a lot of people. And thus the hotel occupancy is where most of the money would come from.

Pretty sure you need a gaming license to have poker. If one of these hotels that offer no gaming go through the massive hurdles to get a gaming license do you think poker is what they are going to use it for? It would like opening a bar to sell wine coolers only. Doesn't make sense does it?

Edit: do you ever walk into the Aria, Wynn, Bellagio and think why don't they have the poker tables as the first thing you see when you walk. Why aren't they in the middle of the gaming floor? It's because they don't make the Casino much money relative to the other games. I get you really really love poker, so do I, but what you're saying makes zero financial sense.

For you to be so anti-poker themed hotel it seems like there might be a possibility that you feel such a project might hurt you somehow financially (e.g. you might run a poker room, or be associated with a big poker room, etc.)

If this is not the case, why should it be any skin off your nose that someone tries such a project.

Not likely, as such if dependent in reality on live poker

Themed gambling joints can develop into great success or not, but the difference may lie in shedding a "limiting" theme.

Poker Palace went one way, as a locals place, https://www.pokerpalace.net/History.html

Bingo Palace grew in another direction.... into Palace Station and into Station Casinos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_Station

The WWE Hotel Casino, ("We'll really hit you at the blackjack table"), did not fare well.

Nor did the Peppermill, as re-themed as a mob joint in Jane Austen's Mafia!

95 LT1 has pretty much beat me to the punch on every response I could possibly have in this thread.

Maybe in the mid-2000s, you could have a prayer of a chance with a casino that is poker-centric, both in its offerings and in its theme/motifs. But for the most part, I lean toward the classic economist's fable of 20-dollar bill on this idea.

You give way too much credit to an "efficient" market in Las Vegas for gambling services; I doubt a classic economist would find it one.

Hahaha yeah, I can't disagree with that.

However, my point is this: if a poker-centric venue was a viable idea, someone in Vegas would have done it by now, and it most likely would have happened sometime around 2005 or so. A casino would have discovered poker to be so profitable that it would be worth replacing table games and machines with more tables, step by step, until we reached something resembling the OP's vision.

I suppose the closest we've come is the WSOP, during which the Rio turns its entire convention center into a poker-only behemoth. So maybe for a few months every year, it DOES happen.

If the Commerce or the Bike could get slots they'd throw out nearly every poker table w/ the next day's trash. There's your answer.

Buy a Montana ghost town, get some licenses, build poker saloons and brothels and they will come in more ways than one.

heck ya! this is what they should have done in 2006, just transform rio to wsop casino. its basically the only thing keeping that property alive, so why not just make that wsop headquarters year round! or change ballys to wsop casino and move it poker themed from all the history of binions and vegas in general.
