Re: Coronavirus has caused the postponement of the WSOP 2020! (Coronavirus quarantine thread)

Yes, the thread is starting to get a little nasty (starting to??). It really serves no purpose to merely proclaim which "camp" you belong to especially if you adorn your post with insults of the other camp. Of course the view that there are two distinct "camps" is itself a nasty construct.

If you have information on how things are proceeding in your locale or other places of interest (casinos, restaurants, etc.), of course please post that in this thread.

If you have views on how things are proceeding (too fast, too slow, whatever) and want to post that in this thread, please try to make it more than a hit-and-run post so that it serves to add to the thread rather than detract from it.

There are very few NVG rules (listed below) so let's at least try to follow them.

This is what I keep saying. I don't like all the downplaying of spread thru surfaces just because it spreads way easier and faster thru air/droplets

I don't know if opening up is the right move, but if they do it, I hope it's done extremely carefully, and that it goes well. Like many of us, I know plenty of people there and would like to see their city start recovering, as long as it can happen relatively safely.

I'll take some blame for that, sorry. Could've made my point in a better way.

I'm starting to get the feeling that most all the poker rooms in Vegas will be closed indefinitely until 4 max is changed to probably 6 max at minimum. It just isn't worth it to reopen poker with 4 max games that most don't want. That's why I wrote here a few weeks ago there needed to be some damn lobbying to the Nevada state officials, gaming commission, etc... to get that changed. No other state I don't think is doing 4 max. How ironic that the gambling mecca in the US now has rules in place for who knows how long that is effectively killing poker in that state. Weird.

a few states are doing 4 max, but theyre the states not yet with their poker rooms opened for the most part. except for south dakota in deadwood. NV, SD, and MS gaming commissions all said poker has to be 4 max. no rooms reopened yet in MS, only casinos. im sure theres others in states with far left wing governors without common sense with the same rules we just dont know of yet.

Vegas has to be more careful than anyone because their whole economy is based on tourism. They cannot have the bad PR of large outbreaks.

I think BB's point was that Tourism is by far the largest part of NV economy (well over 50% ?? likely more)

Tourism is for sure critical to FL (10-20% ?) , but it has several other large industries... agriculture, intl trade hub in Miami, aerospace, the "Florida Man" website, etc etc

Tourism shut down is very very painful to FL, its catastrophic to NV.

Casinos are the heart of the Vegas economy. People donít go to Florida with the primary goal of gambling. Disneyworld and their cautious approach to opening is a better comparison. A rushed opening is much more of a financial risk than waiting a few weeks to see how the reopenings around the country are playing out in regards to virus rebound.

Ugh. I'd really just think it's best for casinos to open up for like a july 4th weekend bash and roll but let the rest of the country Guinea pig for the next 5 weeks. Its worrisome to me as I'm sure others (haven't kept up with the thread) that its perpetually on and off for the rest of the year. Not that it might make a difference but extra caution needs to be taken in a place like a casino and especially Vegas as a whole since people move so fluently through each building. I hope it succeeds of course. I'd love to go back there soon so I'm hoping for the absolute best.

I agree that most poker rooms in Las Vegas will not reopen.

You understand there is a Gaming Control Board meeting on reopening on Tuesday ? You can send in public comments, attend the virtual meeting or you can sit in the self-imposed darkness you are bemoaning.

GCB meetings are pretty transparent in my experience. You may not like the positions or answers, your preferences may get stomped on, but it won't be a secret and by follow-up you can learn the why or who.

(To quote Yogi Berra, "you can observe a lot by watching". Unfortunately, in this age of CoVid, what you lose is the ability to make private inquiries of the various parties involved in the meeting, no halway or back of the room interaction. That will be different.)

Personally, I have no dog in this fight, except maybe to require player masks while playing .... what I consider a wise policy, and possible policy trade-off for 6 max tables ?

Additionally, the Governor tweeted that:

"@GovSisolak

Additionally, the Gaming Control Board will meet Tuesday & will consider any action necessary with regard to reopening. Pending the evaluation of trends in our data and results of this meeting, I have set a target date of June 4, 2020, for reopening Nevada’s gaming industry.
269
3:40 PM - May 22, 2020"

If you want current info and a way to give input, it exists. Tell the Governor your data about poker 6 handed openings, how requiring masks means 6 max is possible, etc. and why it matters... or you can sit on your hands.

If you failed to do any lobbying yourself in the weeks since you posted your call to action, you still have an opening to do so by submitting comments to that meeting.

Venetian poker room preparing to reopen June 5

"The Venetian plans to reopen its poker room June 5 with reduced hours and with four players to a table, as required by the state Gaming Control Board."

"The poker room will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m., the spokeswoman said via email. Games will be played four-handed with a reduced rake (house cut) taken from each hand, she said."

Re: Coronavirus has caused the postponement of the WSOP 2020! (Coronavirus quarantine thread)

Another thing the kind of stinks for the vegas casinos is all the plexiglass and other measures they are putting into place now might be fairly obsolete by the time they open. All of that would be pretty good now (May1-May 30) When people are still unsure about what is going to happen.

By the time these places reopen it will have been about a month since Georgia, Florida , Texas have fully opened up, by that time either

A) things will still be looking good in those spots and the rest of the country will be reopening or force enormous pressure to reopen. People will be even more anti-mask, anti-plexiglass, anti- any restriction then they are becoming now

or

B) all these reopenings are going to cause Covid to spike, cause outbreaks, etc and in that case people will be scared to go the casinos and on airplanes in general.

These safety measure are kind of just for the "uncertain times" which don't seem like they will last much longer the more and more we learn. This being the new normal just isn't going to happen unless for whatever reason we remain uncertain of the Covid ramifications.

In PA where I live we are still locked down, the just said two weeks until yellow where some business can open. But in reality it's just hurting the economy . People are out and about all over the place. Even more now then 2-3 weeks ago when I said people are out all over. There are BBQ's large groups in parks, etc and the covid numbers just keep on a steady track downward. There were even a few traffic jams around Philly the past week, which had all the "doomsdayers" screaming about how can there be traffic jams with just essential workers! It's like they don't get that most people are over the quarentine and just living their lives at this point to whatever extent their allowed.
